After Coiny and Needle's encounter with Pencil and Match, it took a while for them to cool off. Thread was told by the throuple that Flare and her could no longer hang out after school. They were direct and honest with her as they could be with her, which undoubtedly broke Threads heart.
However, they weren't the only ones who had to deal with the aftermath of this fiasco. Saw couldn't help but feel like it was her fault. She was the one who set the two girls up, and she wishes she knew how bad the throuple's relationship was with Pencil and Match.
She felt terrible for giving Thread a friend, and having to get stripped away from her. She was in her room, talking to Gaty about her feelings, as Gaty tried to calm Saw down.
"I just wanted those two girls to be friends, Gaty."
"Saw, you have nothing to feel guilty about," Gaty said, trying to comfort her, "You 're just being the amazing preschool teacher that I know you are."
Saw sighed, still feeling responsible for the incident, "I know, it's just...when you and Book spoke again, you guys were able to put your differences aside for the sake of her child...I just thought Pencil and Match would do the same."
Gaty sighed, "I wish it was that simple, Saw. Not everyone is willing to move on from the mistakes they have made in the past, especially not those two."
Saw nodded, her eyes downcast. "I just hate seeing Thread so heartbroken. She was so excited to have a new friend, and now it feels like I've taken that away from her."
Gaty wrapped her leg around Saw. "You didn't take anything away, Saw. Pencil and Match did. You tried to bring some joy into Thread's life, and that's never something to feel guilty about."
Saw leaned into Gaty, finding some solace in her words. "I just wish I could make it better for her."
Gaty then had a suggestion. "Maybe you should go talk to Thread about this, as both her aunt and her preschool teacher. I think it would make her feel a little bit better knowing she has someone who knows her and flare are meant for eachother."
Saw faintly smiled, as she gave Gaty a quick kiss, "That's a good idea, Gaty, I'll go find her right now."
Saw got up from the bed. She left the room and made her way downstairs, finding Thread in the living room playing with her toys. Thread looked up as Saw approached, her eyes still a bit puffy from crying.
"Auntie Saw?" Thread asked, her voice small and sad.
Saw sat down next to her, pulling her into a gentle hug. "Hey, sweetheart. I wanted to talk to you about what happened."
Thread nodded, her lip quivering. "I miss Flare. I'm never gonna be able to see her again."
Saw tried to cheer her up, "Hey now, that's not entirely true. You're still going to get to see her everyday at school!"
Thread still didn't feel any better, "But we don't have that much time to play at school, we have to spend a lot of the day doing our work!"
Saw sighed, wishing there was more she could do about it, "I know Thread, it's not fair."
Thread continued to be upset, "What did I do wrong, Auntie Saw."
Saw didn't want Thread to think that any of this was her fault, "You did nothing wrong, dear. It's just that sometimes...grown ups have problems with eachother, and there's nothing you or I can do about it."
Thread sniffled, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. "But why do the grown-ups have to be like that? Why can't they just get along?"
Saw hugged her tighter, wishing she had a better answer. "Sometimes people have a hard time letting go of the past. But you have to remember that this isn't your fault or Flare's fault. You two are good friends, and that won't change."
Thread looked up at Saw, her expression a mix of confusion and hope. "So, Flare and I can still be friends? Even if we can't play after school?"
Saw smiled warmly. "Absolutely. You can still be friends. You can write her notes, draw pictures for her, and talk to her during school. And who knows, maybe one day things will change, and you can play together again."
Thread leaned over, giving Saw a hug, "Thank you Auntie Saw!"
Just then, little Bladey walked into the living room, holding a pecice of paper in her hand, "Thread? My mommy said you were feeling sad."
Thread nodded, moving her wheelchair closer to where Bladey was, "Yeah, my friend and I can't play together at our houses anymore."
Bladey handed Thread the piece of paper, which was covered in scribbles, "I made you this so you can feel better."
Thread was nearly moved to tears by her cousin's artwork, "Thank you Bladey!"
Saw watched in awe as the two girls got along, "That was very nice of you sweetheart."
Bladey nodded, "If Thread is ever sad, she can play with us all the time!"
Thread laughed, grateful for the support of the cousin, "Thank you, Bladey, I love you!"
Bladey smiled, giving Thread a hug, "I love you too, Thread."
Even though Bladey and Thread couldn't spend time together outside of school with her best friend, she had a whole support system back at home that could always cheer her up when she was down.
