"Lane, let's eat," Sam called out to me as I stepped out of the bathroom. I raised my eyebrows in surprise and looked at her. She had already changed into her usual school outfit, looking as composed and ready as ever. Her appearance was a sharp contrast to the relaxed state we had been in earlier. Seeing her dressed and prepared made me realize how quickly things had shifted from our intimate moment to the ordinary routine of the day.

I have a class at 8 PM, and from what I know, she also has a class from 7 PM to 10 PM.

""No, I’m still full," I said, looking away and deliberately avoiding her gaze, trying to act as if nothing had happened earlier.

"You haven't eaten anything else, except me?!" she replied with a mischievous smile, her tone playful and teasing.

I looked back at her and rolled my eyes. "I think I need to go now. Thanks for letting me borrow your clothes. I’ll pay you back once I get my salary," I said, referring to the brand-new clothes she had given me.

"No need, baby. I actually bought them for you, just in case you ended up staying here," she said plainly. It turned out she had planned for me to spend the night here? Oh not again.

"I'm sure this will be the last time," I said, trailing off. Her lips formed a pout, which I found quite adorable. I tried not to let her playful reaction affect me too much, even though I couldn’t help but find her endearing.

"Come on, let’s eat," she said, walking over to me and taking my hand. Without realizing it, I followed her as she led me to the dining area. She had cooked my favorite adobo.

I sat down in front of her as she smiled widely and began serving the food she had prepared. As I looked around, I noticed a banana cake still in its container on the table. I didn’t ask about it, but it seemed like she had made it too.

""Let’s go to the university together," she said while we were eating. I didn’t respond to her, since it was clear that we would go to school together, and as if I really have a choice.

She handed me a glass and poured some water into it. "I can do it myself," I said, trying to keep my tone from sounding cold or harsh.

"I know you can," she replied, "I just want to do it for you because it seems like you’re not taking care of yourself." Her tone reminded me of my grandmother, as if she were fussing over me.

I chose to remain silent, not wanting to argue with her over something trivial. We were in the middle of our meal when suddenly, the doorbell rang, interrupting our silence.

"Are you expecting a visitor?" I asked, a bit curious about the unexpected interruption. She simply shrugged her shoulders and stood up from her seat, making her way to the door to find out who was ringing the doorbell.

While eating, I fixed my eyes on the person standing behind Sam as they walked toward the dining table. I almost choked on my food when I saw his face. He looked surprised to see me, but after a moment of realization, he broke into a smile.

"Why is she here?" he asked plainly, still staring at me. I set my utensils down and met his gaze, feeling a sense of unease as if he were plotting something against me.

"What are you doing here, Patrick?" she asked as she sat down beside me, not addressing Patrick's earlier question about why I was here.

"I'm here because Aunt Sarina called me," Patrick replied, still looking at me. "She wants us to visit your brother. He has regained consciousness." As he spoke, my eyes widened in surprise and relief at hearing such good news.

Kuya Zaint was awake now!

Sam looked at me and gave me a simple smile. "We’ll go there after class," she said.
