Eliana
My legs feel numb.
It feels like my heart might explode from the way it's beating against my chest.
The turtle neck sticks to my skin.
My hands begin to feel sweaty.
"Eliana", my father says, "I didn't know you'd be here."
I swallow.
Hard.
Fynn lays his hand on mine under the table, squeezing it.
He doesn't know who that man is.
But he knows that I am not feeling good.
"Well", my mother claps her hands together once, "we are all here to meet your daughters fiancé."
Fynns grip on my hand tightens abruptly.
I glance over at him as he glares at my father.
Fury filling his eyes.
God, please calm him down.
"Oh", my fathers eyebrows shoot up.
His eyes move over to Fynn, "you must be the fiancé."
Fynn doesn't respond with his mouth but with his eyes.
I tap on his hand with my free one, "honey?"
He looks at me, his eyes calming.
"My father asked you a question", I force a smile.
"It wasn't a question", my father points out, "rather a statement."
He looks at Anna who's sitting in front of Fynn, "do you mind? I want to talk to the soon to be husband."
Anna smiles and rises to her feet, holding her belly with her hand, "Not at all"
She should be about nine months along now.
Last time I saw her, she was barely showing.
My father sits down in front of Fynn.
Fynns jaw clenches.
"I'm Ron."
Fynn forces himself to accept the extended hand from my father, "Fynn."
"Fynn", I try to say in a steady voice, failing at that.
He turns towards me, "yes, baby?"
"Can I talk to you for a second?"
He stands up at once, helping me up with his hand.
We walk out of the dining room into the bathroom.
I lock the door and exhale deeply, closing my eyes.
For a moment there is silence.
Peace.
I open my eyes and turn around to Fynn.
He paces around.
Until he sees me watching him.
He stares at me for a moment, trying to read my expression.
Then he lifts his arms around me.
Even though he says nothing, his body language says more than I need to know.
His heart beat slows down to normal.
His arms relax.
His thumbs caress my arms.
