The routine is normal by now. Planet, without invitation, has showed up at his doorstep once again, a foolish grin on his cheerful face. Bacon smiles back, and Planet steps inside, and they just go about their day as if Planet has always been with him.
Today is no different. Bacon is typing on his phone, ordering Doordash, while Planet scrolls through the TV channels beside him, trying to locate something interesting.
"Do you want anything?" Bacon asks, interrupting the comfortable quiet of the moment. Planet looks away from the TV, fixing his eyes on Bacon's phone instead.
"Well, what is there?" He grabs Bacon's phone, scrolling through the available options. He clicks a few buttons and hands the phone back so Bacon can pay.
"You're lucky I can afford to pay for your tastes," Bacon jokes after a while as he fills in his payment information. Planet laughs beside him, now busy watching some nature documentary Bacon takes no interest in.
"You wouldn't be my friend if you couldn't," Planet jokes back, but is quickly distracted before Bacon can respond. "Ooh look, a toucan! It's so pretty..."
Bacon decides to forget about his mock indignation and indulge Planet in his interests. He's never been too sure why Planet is so interested in the Earth and its biology, but he doesn't bother to ask.
"Yeah, they're really cool honestly." He adds, squinting at the high-res images of the bird flying through the jungle, trying to figure out what exactly is so interesting about it. The classic voice of David Attenborough narrates the details in the documentary in the background.
"They're cute, I want one..." Planet's expression is one of awe as he watches the colorful bird fly about through the trees, most likely imagining what it's like to have a toucan for a pet. Knowing the world, it's probably not as glorious as it sounds, but Bacon doesn't say that. It'll spoil poor Planet's visions.
The Doordash order arrives a few minutes later, and Bacon quietly gets up from his warm indent in the couch to open the door. Planet remains on the couch, eyes fixed on the TV.
The front area of his apartment, a mix of kitchen/dining room, is significantly brighter than his living room, whose lights have been dimmed for a better viewing experience. Bacon squints against the harsh synthetic light as he swings open his apartment door and takes the bag of food from the delivery guy.
Once the door is shut again, Bacon hefts the surprisingly heavy bag of food to the couch while also simultaneously trying to unknot the bag and take out his food. He ends up just sitting down first and ripping it open by force.
"Gimme, gimme!" Planet reaches over him to dig through the gaping hole in the plastic, pulling out a large takeout box full of rice and seasoned chicken. "Also, do you have a fork? There's only chopsticks in there."
Bacon sighs and gets up again. He was just starting to enjoy the warmth of the couch again. He tries to step on his tiptoes as he walks to the kitchen- the tiled floor is uncomfortably cold.
Sliding open his kitchen drawer, he pulls out a metal fork for Planet, and an extra one for his own order of noodles. He elbows it shut and swiftly tiptoes back, crossing his legs once he gets to sit on the couch again and shivering.
"Here's your fork. I had to cross Antarctica to get it," Bacon says, brandishing the fork in front of Planet's face. Planet snatches it and immediately rips open his takeout box to dig into his chicken.
Bacon rolls his eyes good-naturedly and opens his own box, filled with steaming noodles garnished sparsely with limp vegetable bits. He twirls some around his fork and shoves it into his mouth, trying to chew quietly so Planet can hear his show.
"Ooh, that's so pretty! I'd use that as my wallpaper- that'd be cool, right?" Planet asks, poking Bacon in the side to draw his attention. Once Bacon looks up from his noodles, Planet gestures to the expansive coral reef on the screen, the sea-blue water crystal clear and wavering with patches of sunlight.
"Mhm. I still think your space background suits you better though," Bacon replies, referring to Planet's current nebula-themed computer background. Planet nods thoughtfully, once again fixed on the screen.
The show's over by now, and Planet is getting ready to head back to his house. It was a relatively short visit, but Bacon'll take any time with Planet over none.
As Planet shoves his feet into his worn galaxy sneakers, he thanks Bacon for his hospitality, as usual. But before he leaves, he asks a little something:
"Hey Bacon? I've always wondered- y'know, can I try on your glasses?"
Bacon's a little surprised, but he isn't at all offended, unlike Planet's expression, which suggests that he might be. "Oh, sure! They might be a little blurry for you though."
Planet's equally surprised by Bacon's acceptance of the matter, but that quickly fades into the onset of childish curiosity as he grabs Bacon's glasses and places them gingerly on his own face.
He blinks, once, twice. Bacon has to admit he looks a little weird with the glasses perched on the edge of his nose- it stands out from his usual look.
"Hey, this is actually kinda cool! Everything's, like, clearer now!" Planet has stopped rapidly blinking and is now excitedly looking around Bacon's apartment, gaze darting about like this is the first time he's been here.
Bacon's a little confused now. How would Planet see well with his glasses- he didn't wear any? "Hm, weird- I don't think you're supposed to see well with these?" Bacon holds out his hand, and Planet drops the glasses in his palm.
"Oh, now the world's all blurry again." Planet looks around the apartment again, squinting to try and find the clarity from before.
"Planet?" Bacon chuckles. "You might need glasses."
"Oh."
