Another normal day in New York City, another soporific summer sunset, another hour spent sprawled lazily over the couch like a throw draped over cushions, mind drifting in a hazy half-torpor. Another usual day, if anything really did stay the same, for Baconwaffles.
Another normal day in New York City, another dazzling dusk hued with scarlet and citrus and gold, another long drive through busy lanes of revving evening traffic, crawling along like the many sections of a giant metallic caterpillar, all trying not to bump into each other. Another usual day, if anything really did stay the same, for Planetlord.
The doorbell rang, once, twice, three times, before Planet remembered he owned a spare key and could unlock the door on his own. Bacon had risen from the couch, a comment about those keys hanging on the tip of his tongue, when he swung open the door with those keys in hand, and the words fell from his mouth onto the floor, left unused, a thought forgotten.
"Oh hey. What's up?"
"I got you something."
The hand holding keys stuffed itself away, squirreled itself into the pocket of Planet's hoodie, glittering blue-purple-black like nebulae pressed into comfortable fabric. The other hand, once clenched into a tight fist, now lifted itself and deposited something shiny into Bacon's outstretched hand.
It was a ring, a simple band of amber-tinted metal, reflecting faces and synthetic lights and sunsets. The same hue of a thousand other pieces of metal, scraps of days long past, cast off and buried in the back of brains by chance, stuffed in a drawer in Bacon's bedroom.
"Aw, you didn't need to get me anything-"
"It's fine! I don't really have anything I want to buy anyways."
Smiles exchanged like pennies and candy, looks that glitter with expressions unraveled only by the recipient they're meant for. Bacon lifts a finger, already adorned with a ring, and slides the new one on, and it glitters like it's always been there and forever will be.
"Thanks."
"No problem!"
"So do you wanna do something? I got my controllers working again if you want-"
"You got ice cream?"
A chuckle, warm like setting sunrays, fuzzy like the feeling of friendship. "Of course I do."
