I threw open the doors to the courtyard. I had stopped crying by then, but I still felt as if I had been stabbed with a rusty dagger by the person I loved most. "Jamie?" I jumped when I heard the voice. Not many people were out in the courtyard this late. I turned on my heel quickly, and faced Christopher. I relaxed slightly. "Oh. Hey, Chris. What are you doing out here?" He sighed, stepping closer to me. "I heard about what happened. Ella sent a message to the group chat. I... wanted to make sure that you're okay," he murmured. I blinked in slight surprise. "Oh. Well, I'll be fine," I lied, then turned around. Chris stopped me by taking my hand. "No, you're not. Jamie, you don't act like this normally, and you shouldn't have to be okay. Please- don't lie." I couldn't respond for a moment, then I whispered, "I'm... just in shock right now. And I don't want to cry over him. I just don't want to feel like he won." Chris's eyes widened. "He didn't. It's okay to cry," he assured me. Then I broke. I let out a sob. Both of us stood there as I cried. Chris simply held onto my hand and stayed silent. Then he smiled softly and whispered, "You know, Ella's already planning revenge." I wiped the remainder of my tears away and tried my best to grin. "I want in." A smile spread across his face. "Of course you do. She probably wants you to get up there soon, so she can explain the plan." I nodded vigorously. "Yeah. Good idea." I stepped away, then paused. "Oh- and Chris? I started, hesitantly. He turned to me. "Yeah?" I smiled. "Thank you." He smiled back, but didn't respond. Then I turned and we walked towards the dorms.
