Professor Robbinson, my Robotics I professor, decided to teach us coding. I wasn't very interested in it, but for the people majoring or minoring in computer science, it was crucial. I was trying to follow along, but I wasn't very good at it. I groaned in annoyance when my code failed again. "Hey, do you need any help?" A voice asked. I turned to see who had spoken. A girl with dark brown hair and green eyes. I faintly remembered her name being Beatrice. "Yes, I would love that," I said, chuckling. Beatrice guided me through it. Once we finished, I shut the laptop. "Sorry about that. I'm majoring in engineering, so this isn't exactly my specialty," I explained. Beatrice nodded. "No, it's fine. I like helping people code." The bell rang shortly afterward, and I went to lunch. Beatrice came after me. "Hey- I never got your name. Sorry if I don't remember it from Monday..." I laughed. "No, it's fine. I don't remember a single person's name in that classroom- other than the ones I've talked to. My name is Jamie." Beatrice smiled. "Well, it's nice to meet you." She paused as we got into the food court. "I'm going to get lunch now," She added, then walked away with a wave. I waved back, then turned to look for Ella and Jake. I practically raced over to them. "Who was that?" Ella asked. "I met her in Robotics and she helped me code. Her name is Beatrice," I told her. "Cool. You definitely seem to be making friends easily," Ella noted, and I grinned. "I would say it's in my blood, but you turned out the exact opposite." She smiled. I'm starting to miss our parents, I thought. Ella nodded. "Me too." I went still with shock, and Jake gave her a confused look. "What? I didn't say anything," I said. "Yeah. Who were you talking to?" Jake added. Ella looked between us. "I heard Jamie say..." She looked over to me. "You said that you were starting to miss our parents." I paled. "I didn't say that." Ella looked confused, but covered it up quickly. She was a quick thinker. "Well, then. I must be going crazy or something," She joked nervously. I gave her a look. It probably had something to do with our powers. I wasn't quite sure what, though. "Eh. I might go crazy if I can't eat lunch. Let's get our food," I cut into the silence, and the three of us went to get subs again.

When the school day was over, Ella and I immediately rushed to our room. "What was that all about?" I demanded. "I thought that. I was thinking about our parents, and you responded." Ella looked very pale. "I'm not sure. It was like I could hear your thoughts like they were being spoken out loud," she mumbled. I rolled my eyes. "No duh. We need to research this or- or something..." I wasn't quite sure what to do about it. It wasn't like google had information on hybrid powers, besides how to best them in a fight without any magic. "Hold on. I'm going to try it again," I said. Is this getting through? I forcibly tried to make that thought louder. Could she hear all of my thoughts? Was she getting mind reading powers? I pushed away my questions. Ella nodded, opened her mouth, then paused. Is it happening to you too? I almost jumped when her voice seemed to speak inside of my mind. Yes, I responded, but Ella didn't seem to react to it. "So?" She questioned, and I realized that our connection had somehow been severed. Maybe it was still faltering because we literally just got the power to do it out of nowhere. "Yeah. It works both ways," I confirmed. "I tried to respond, but I don't think it got through." Ella shrugged. "Well, this is very much new. It... actually could be quite helpful at times." A grin of excitement spread across my face. "Yeah, it could." We would actually be able to communicate about being hybrids in public, even if we weren't talking. "We have to keep practicing it," I said. Ella nodded, then paused. "I think a nice, relaxing journaling session might help me clear my head. How about you?" I shrugged. I wasn't super into journaling, but I decided to help my sister with her assignment. "Yeah. I'll do it."

HEY! I don't know why I'm saying hi, since this is a book, but here we go. Ella finally convinced me to start journaling, unfortunately. I guess it makes sense, but it seems a little boring. Anyways, today has certainly been interesting. You see, dear diary, my sister and I are hybrids, which are very illegal here. Yeah. Illegal for existing. But hey, at least we get cool powers! Today Ella and I found out we can speak in each other's minds. We have a telepathic connection! It's kinda cool, and we could use it for all sorts of things. It will make it easier to tell lies to people, (rightfully) plan things out, and also not get caught! You know, it would be so cool if we made a secret organization to fight back against the humans making us "illegal". Actually, that isn't a bad idea. Someone has to do it, or no one will. Ugh... I want to, but Ella, I'm sure will keep doing her good old, "but oh dear sister, it will be too dangerous!" HAH! Danger is my middle name! Maybe I can convince her to do this. Part of the reason I agreed to journal was to try to convince her to go along with what I want. Hey, this is actually pretty nice. I think I'll continue writing in this.
