We also told Amelia and Lilly in our dorm, so nobody could overhear the whole story. Lilly looked as if she was about to start crying happy tears. "That... that's amazing," she whispered. "I'm so happy you got to say a real goodbye." Amelia nodded. She looked awfully distant and sad. Lilly reached over and took her hand. Amelia and her shared a look. "My dad passed away a few years ago," Amelia murmured. "I would do anything to see him again." Ella and I hugged her. "You know, we're so lucky to have each other," Lilly said as she joined in the group hug. Amelia nodded, and whispered, "I don't know what I would have done without you guys." I saw her shoot a glance at Lilly, and my heart melted. "You're right. We're so, so lucky to have found each other even with the state the world is in... We're going to stick together, alright? We can fix this. Together," I said, and the whole group seemed to lighten as everyone smiled.

I was sitting on my bed, texting Jake. We were doing the usual- joking, being best friends and all, and I was already beginning to feel much better. Though every time I texted Jake there was this underlying feeling of guilt. It felt terrible lying to him. As a kid I thought it would get easier over time, but instead it got worse every single day. The closer we became, the more horrible the guilt was.
I'm going to sleep.
I sent to him. I really was getting tired.
About time! It's what, 3 in the morning?
I rolled my eyes.
Jake, you're also up.
Yeah, because you woke me up with the 5000 notifications on my phone.
That sounds a little exaggerated.
You're the one to talk.
Seriously though, I'm going to sleep.
I chuckled before turning off my phone and closing my eyes as I let myself sink into the pillow.

On Sunday, Ella and I had to prepare to start the school week. We mostly did simple things like cleaning up the dorm. We hadn't thought about that during the week, to no surprise. But we wanted to be better before going back into school. I wanted to be as better as I possibly could be. Though it would be a little strange... At the beginning of the year, our parents would call us every other day to make sure we were doing fine. Now they would never call us again. I was busy folding laundry, which according to Ella was, "the most shocking thing she'd seen all day". Seriously, she acted like I was the younger one. I threw a T-shirt at her face in response. Once I finished with that, I organized some of my personal things, and my heart sank when I found a dusty frame with a picture of our family stuffed in my bag. I must have forgotten to put it up. I gently took it out of my bag and placed it on the small bedside table. I brushed off the dust and sighed. I heard footsteps behind me and spun around- of course, it was just Ella. Her gaze caught the picture, and her eyes softened. "Oh, have you had that the whole time?" She asked. I nodded. "I just put it up. I found it in my bag." She smiled softly. "I love it." It was from when we were kids. Me, with my scruffy look and dorky grin on my face, dirt on my knees, and Ella, hair curled perfectly, smiling in the most adorable way I'd ever seen her smile. "This was our Easter photo, right?" Ella murmured. I nodded. "Wow, I didn't even care to look nice for our Easter family photo," I joked. Ella smiled. "I think it's cute to look back on, though I doubt our parents thought that when they took it." I laughed. Ella and I were wearing adorable matching easter dresses, but mine had grass stains on it. She ran her hand over the photo once, then drew back. "Well, I'm going to continue cleaning up. You should too." She gave me a joking warning look, then walked out of the room. I smiled.
