A few minutes later, Frank showed up and knocked on our door. I had to check first, just out of the fear that someone could have found us, but I was relieved to see it was him. He stepped in and the door shut behind him. "You need to realize what a risky move that was," he said. "The Hybrid Hunters are probably trying to find you two now. If not, then the police at least." I sighed. "Hello to you too," I muttered under my breath. Frank either didn't hear me or decided not to respond to that. "Girls... attacking a guard is not a good way to show the world that hybrids are not a threat." Ella gasped indignantly. "If we hadn't attacked him we would both be dead." Unfortunately, I knew Frank was right, but I had to agree that we would have been dead, or in the hands of the Hybrid Hunters if we hadn't attacked. There was no way we could have succeeded by continuing to play dumb. Frank sighed. "Well, what's done is done." He stepped forward. "I have to change your appearances now." Ella grimaced. "How are we supposed to go back to Yale when we look like completely different people?" She asked. "Oh, I'll change your appearance back by then," Frank assured us. "I just don't want you to get spotted when we're so close to the 'crime scene.'" He paused, then added, "Once you're back, be very, very careful. If the Hybrid Hunters can find out your names, they will find you. If they do, I'll be right here, and I'll change your appearances again." I nodded. "Let's do it then. There's no time to waste." Frank nodded as well, then raised his hand towards Ella. In the blink of an eye, she turned from my sister into a complete stranger.. Her naturally wavy hair fell straight and very long, turning blonde, almost white. Her eyes became icy blue. She was slightly taller than she had been before. Even her face shape was different- rounder. This was going to be weird to get used to. She was now wearing a comfy looking turtle neck. Frank turned to me. I paused, waiting for something to happen. A strange numbing feeling spread throughout me. I turned to the mirror on the wall, and for a moment I was startled. My hair was also blonde, like Ella's, but it was cut much shorter. Maybe a little past my chin. My face was rounder, also like Ella's. Frank probably wanted to keep us looking similar, so we could still call each other sisters. I was also much shorter, shorter than Ella too, which was very strange. I had always been taller than her, even if just by an inch or two. I was around 5'6 before, but now I probably stood at 5'3. I supposed that would lead people off our tail as well. I was wearing a button up sweater with a skirt. Frank dug something out of his pocket. "Here. I got these for you as well. Just in case you need them for whatever reason." He held out two fake IDs. I grinned and took them. Katlyn Richards, mine read. I was 20 years old, born on October 5th, 1999. Ella was the older one. Or, "Amy" technically. She was born on December 23rd, 1996. So she was 23 years old. That's insane to think about, I realized. She was technically able to drink alcohol now. "Thanks," Ella said, turning to Frank, which snapped me out of my thoughts. She smiled, and it was her smile. I guess he couldn't change everything. Though I doubted most would care to pay that much attention, but being her sister I knew her better than most people. "Don't. We need to leave as soon as possible," Frank said, but he returned the smile. The three of us rushed out of the room, grabbing our keys quickly. To avoid going up to the front desk to check out, we put them in the bucket set close to it and hurried away. We basically threw the doors open. Frank turned to go to his car. He gave us one last look. "Remember to be more careful next time. Text me when you're at Yale, and I'll change you back." Ella nodded, then we said our goodbyes. We got into the car and started driving back to Yale.

I almost stomped on the brakes in the middle of the road. On the border between states, there were now guards, checking everyone's IDs and making sure that we couldn't get out. Ella and I shared a look. My heart was racing, but I forced myself to calm down, remembering that I looked nothing like myself. My calm didn't last long, because I realized that the guard Ella had knocked out was standing nearby. "Amy," I muttered, looking at my sister. "Try not to speak much. He could recognize your voice." I gestured to him, and Ella's eyes widened when she saw him. "Right." she paused, then added, "Kate." I took out my fake ID, and Ella handed me hers. "Just so you know, we're two sisters who went on a trip to visit our parents in West Virginia. Our parents had us relatively later in life, so they're older, and we want to take care of them," I made up. Ella nodded slowly, then her eyes lit up. She signed in ASL, I could be mute. "Good idea," I agreed. Our parents had taught us ASL because it's honestly just a good thing to know. Our uncle, who had gone missing ages ago, (probably captured or killed, maybe both, unfortunately) was deaf, so that did inspire it. We pulled in behind the other cars. The wait felt like ages even though it was only a few minutes. Though they seemed to be questioning each person. I knew most people found it simply annoying, but I found it terrifying. I rolled down the window. "IDs?" The woman questioning us asked. I held them out to her. She scanned over it quickly, raising an eyebrow. "So," she said, looking up at us. "You two are sisters?" I nodded. "Yeah. We were down in West Virginia to visit our parents." The woman nodded. I noticed the guard from earlier, standing off to the side of her, and we made eye contact. I immediately broke it, heart pounding. Sure enough, his eyes narrowed as he looked at the IDs as well. "She's the older one?" He gestured to Ella. "Why isn't she talking?" He probably recognized me, or at least thought I was familiar. "She's mute," I explained. Ella nodded, signing, Yes, I am. The guard seemed to lose his suspicion. "Oh. I suppose that makes sense. You can go." The security woman handed me back the IDs, and I pretty much bolted out of there, whether accidentally or on purpose. Once we were far enough away, I breathed a heavy sigh of relief. "I'm so happy that's over." Ella chuckled and nodded. "I was panicking there too." We drove on, hopefully leaving our worries behind.
