I felt the world spinning as I watched my girlfriend speed away. A few minutes later, my parents looked at me and Chris grimly. "We need to go back," my mother said. My father nodded. "Since they didn't see us use magic, I can use my talent to persuade them that we were being threatened." After that, we silently walked back to the house. One of the Hybrid Hunters came out to question us. "Why did you run?" The question was directed at my parents. I recognized the persuasive tone in my father's voice as he said, "We just wanted to get out of the way." The man nodded, believing him. "Why did you let them stay here in the first place?" My father began to tremble, as if he was overcome with fear. "They threatened us. They said that they would hurt my son and his friend if we didn't let them stay." Although it disgusted me, I nodded along. The man still looked slightly suspicious. "Why were they fighting too?" My father acted confused. "I don't know what you mean. Christopher and Thomas were merely in the background, scared. If anything, they panicked and fought to get out of there." The man nodded. "Okay. I'll need you to repeat that in front of everybody." I couldn't believe our luck. "Of course," my father said. We were all able to hide our relief. Just one Hybrid Hunter believing us wouldn't be enough. Everyone gathered, including Jake. He had a nasty bump on his head from where Ella had hit him. I tried not to look smug as Jake stared at us. Even Jake would have no doubt that we were innocent. My father repeated his fake story. No doubts remained. They left. When we walked back into the house, my mom started to clean up the kitchen. Thankfully, that was the only room that had gotten trashed. I pulled out my phone and texted Ella.
Are you guys okay?
Rather than a response, I received an alert. Ella had blocked me.
