Chapter 90 ~ Jamie

     Lilly was blasted back from the impact of the gun, and the noise rang out. My head spun and time seemed to slow as I heard Amelia scream, falling to her knees next to Lilly. Ella stumbled back, grabbing my shoulder. Jake dropped the gun, eyes wide. I saw Lilly on the ground, bleeding from the head. Amelia would have made it, had she been shot. She had her bulletproof vest on. Tears threatened to spill over, but instead anger rose up inside me. I made a ball of fire, glaring at Jake. His Hybrid Hunter girlfriend leaned in and tried to kiss him again, but he shoved her back. He was gasping, clearly hyperventilating. "What's wrong, baby?" She asked, reaching out again. Jake fell to the ground. "That's enough," I said in a low, menacing tone. His head snapped up. I ran forward, without thinking, and blasted him in the face with fire. I saw the other two Hybrid Hunters try to stop me, but Ella knocked the girl to the ground in an instant, holding them back from me. Jake was flung back. I threw another blast of fire, barely caring what I set aflame. I grabbed him by the collar of his shirt. He didn't even try to stop me. He just stayed limp, giving me a horrible look of helplessness. I set my hand aflame again, tears in my eyes. "I can't believe you killed her!" I screamed. "How could you!?" Everywhere around me burst into flame. I was beginning to lose control. Not only of my fire, but my anger. Jake stayed silent, which made me angrier. "I'm going to kill you, Jake Grey. In the most painful way possible. And I won't regret it." He closed his eyes. He seemed like he was almost awaiting it. I drew my sword, slowly, then set it aflame. I raised it, but paused when I heard a voice. "Jamie! Stop it! You're burning everything!" It was Ella's voice. She was in a panic, trying to put my fire out with water. It was spreading, and fast. To the battlefield area. My heart lurched. I could hurt people. But seeing Amelia, still leaning over Lilly's body, rage took over. I struck out with the sword. But then it stopped. Breathing heavily, I turned slightly. Ella was holding onto the sword with me. Stopping me. "Jamie, don't," she whispered. "I thought you said kill or be killed!" I snapped, trying to rip it out of her grip. Her face was dark and sad. "Let him live. Let him live and live with the guilt of all the horrible things he has done to his friends as well as innocent people." She leaned closer to Jake's face. "That's worse than death." My hand was shaking now. Then I dropped my sword and let the flames subside. I let go of Jake, getting to my feet and walking away without looking back. The moment I was out of his line of sight, I burst into tears. Amelia had moved Lilly's body behind one of the pillars. She was still leaning over her, sobbing. I looked back at Jake, carefully. He was still on the ground, in a slumped sitting position, pure horror in his eyes. The Hybrid Hunter who had pressured him into doing it walked back over to him. He smiled. "Now, you aren't going to end the battle like this, are you? Come on. Get up and keep fighting," he said. Jake paused for a moment, then something flashed in his eyes. He stood up slowly, hand on his dagger. "You're right," he murmured. "I'm not ending the battle like this." He nodded. "Good. Now-" Jake, in an instant, stabbed him in the heart. "I will never, never let myself be manipulated by you or my family ever again," he said in a low voice. "Neither will I hurt my friends more than I already have." The Hybrid Hunter's eyes were wide, then they rolled back and he collapsed. Jake pulled the dagger back, shaking, then let out a sob and bolted from the mess he'd made. I turned back to my friends. Lilly, dead. Amelia, sobbing. Ella, in shock. A sudden determination filled me, and I walked towards the open. I stood at the front of the Capitol. The battle was beginning to stop. The remaining Hybrid Hunters were running, and the wounded were being tended to. I took a deep breath. It was over.
