I practically had to drag Jamie out of bed since she had stayed up late doing her homework. "This is why you shouldn't go on dates before doing your homework." She groaned. "5 more minutes, mommy," Jamie said sarcastically. I turned on the lights, pulled the blankets off of her, and turned on the fan. "You are so mean." I rolled my eyes. "Fine. I won't make sure that you aren't late to your classes." With that, I slammed the door. I chuckled when I left. I wasn't actually angry, but Jamie didn't need to know that. I went over to Jake's dorm, knowing that she wouldn't be far behind me.

When I walked into Psychology and the Good Life, Professor Honey seemed very excited. "Good morning! Usually I don't introduce this until later on, but I couldn't wait. You will all be designing and personalizing your own journals. You have total freedom for this. If you want to, you can also let one friend design one too. I will be paying for them. I'm sure you are wondering what the purpose is. As you know, this class is about understanding human emotions. Some of you may become therapists. The point of this is to see how writing down what happens to you affects your life. Everyone will have a partner. If you do not wish to share what you wrote, that is completely fine. However, you should talk to your partner about how it makes you feel? Do you find that it relieves stress, or do you think it is a waste of time? You may choose your partners now." I looked around awkwardly. I hadn't had real conversations with any of them before. My gaze landed on a boy who looked as awkward as I did. I walked towards him. "Hi. I usually wait for someone to ask me in these situations, but that wasn't getting me anywhere. Do you want to be partners?" He looked relieved. "Yeah. I'm Christopher Blackwood. We went to the same high school. Ella, right?" He held out his hand. I shook it with a smile. "Yeah! It is nice to see a familiar face."

"Professor Honey is letting us design our own journals using an app on our laptops. I guess it is really fast, so she will be able to give them to us by dinner tomorrow. She said that one other person could make one too. Do you want to do that after we finish our homework?" I asked Jamie when we met in our dorm. "Sure," she said. "It could be good for expressing our hybrid concerns," I added. She nodded. Neither of us had much to do, so before long we were sitting on the couch with my laptop. "Why exactly is she doing this?" Jamie asked. "It is for a sort of experiment. We each have a partner that we will share our thoughts about the assignment with." I explained. "Interesting. Who is your partner? Is it a boy? What does he look like?" I rolled my eyes. "His name is Christopher. We went to high school with him. He has black hair and..." I trailed off. "Wait, I think his eyes are purple. Must be contacts." I shrugged. Jamie tilted her head. "Isn't he the cello player?" I nodded. "He is always hanging out with the french horn player, Thomas. He also went to high school with us. The two of them are best friends." Jamie considered for a moment. "Yes. Thomas is funny." I scoffed. "He's annoying." She smirked. "Of course you would think that." I glared at her. "You know that we were rivals in high school... Anyway, I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that and focus on my journal." I decided on a blue cover with shells and waves. Jamie made hers have flames. Only we knew that those represented our magic.
