Football. Amil didn't really care for it, mainly because she wasn't big a fan. Despite participating in Friday night lights when she was in high school, she hadn't watched any other games. But tonight was different, it was superbowl Sunday. Amil still didn't care too much for the actual game, she was excited about Usher's half time performance. "When is halftime?" Amil turned to Zion, causing him to chuckle as he leaned over and kissed her forehead.

"I promise you won't miss it, babe—they gon' announce it, we got like thirty minutes before then." He assured her while reaching for his plate of party foods that Amil prepared for the small get together that they were hosting. Zion's friends and a couple of his co workers came over to watch the game with him. Amil invited Mei, who was currently running a bit late.

"These wings good as fuck, Amil." Von called out, causing Amil to smile. This was her first time cooking in a bigger batch than she usually did and for other people that wasn't Zion. She fixed your usual game day favorites such as flavored wings, rotel dip, burger sliders, and a small selection of sides.

"Yeah—the wings good, but I got one question for you." Julian announced, sucking his buffalo sauce bedecked fingers before reaching for his drink. Amil raised her eyebrows, indicating that she was ready to hear his question. "Why you got on this Cowboys jersey?" He quizzed, making Amil erupt into laughter.

"Cause they almost made it and they deserve to be celebrated, too." She replied. Truthfully, it was the only football related clothing article that she owned and she felt like it was fitting for the occasion. "Cowboys fans the most optimistic people in the world—y'all gotta let that shit go." Von chimed in, scoring a faint chuckle from Amil.

"Why you ain't get no beers for the party, Zi?" One of the boys questioned while reaching for his solo cup full of homemade punch. "Cause I don't drink that shit—you know what the military pay, I ain't wasting money on shit for y'all to drink, I'm already feeding you niggas." Zion joked, gaining a bunch of laughs and trash talk from his friend.

The doorbell rang, catching Amil's attention. Everybody else was already there, so it was a no brainer that behind the door was Mei. Amil hopped up and strode over to the door and looked in the peephole before answering. Smiles covered their faces once they laid eyes on each other. "Look at great minds thinking alike." Amil quipped at the fact that they both had on cowboys attire. Mei laughed as she stepped into the home and pulled her feet out of her shoes. "I thought they were the ones playing, till I heard the score update on the radio." Mei replied, adding to their laughter.

"Is Mar here?" She inquired, walking side by side with Amil, who was guiding her into the kitchen. "Naw, he's at work, hosting for the people that's watching it there." Amil answered.

"Were you planning on seeing him tonight?" Amil smirked, looking over at her friend. "Girl, yes, I look cute...he needa see me." Mei replied, resulting in them sharing a laugh. Amil couldn't wrap her head around Mei wanting him more now that he wasn't on her at all. Mar didn't even bring her up, despite knowing they worked together. Amil knew her friend well enough to know that he probably never really liked her as much as he lead her to believe.

"Fuck it—imma try to get me a nigga with some benefits tonight." Mei joked, Amil laughed while grabbing her friend a styrofoam plate and handing it to her.  "You made all of this?" Mei questioned in a shocked manner. Amil nodded her head yes as she simultaneously let out a brief chuckle.

"Why is this my first time hearing that you can cook?" Mei voiced, carefully picking out her wing flavors, making sure that every piece of chicken that she picked up was a flat. "I don't know...it just never came up—and we eat out a lot at work." Amil replied.

"Zion better marry you before I do...I don't have benefits, or a house, but you'll love it here." Mei quipped, Amil laughed while fixing her friend a cup of ice for her drink. Once Mei was finished building her plate, Amil lead her over to the group and collectively introduced her to everyone. They grabbed a seat on the couch and continued to have small chatter, not really paying attention to the football game.
