With all the money Amil was pocketing from her scholarship, she made the executive decision to sit herself down and really plan what she wanted to spend the money on. As of now, she was split between a couple choices. Amil thought about using the money to get herself an apartment. Something nice that was in a nicer part of the city. She wasn't too sold on that idea, due to her feeling like her living arrangement wasn't bad at all and she wasn't in dire need of an apartment right now. Though it would be nice to have an entire unit to herself.
Lately, Amil found comparison to be the brigand of her joy. She hated to admit it, but she was watching her peers through the lens of iPhone cameras and measuring her success to theirs. After noticing a few of her old track teammates post keys to their new apartments, she began to wonder if she should be doing the same. Instagram made it very easy to build illusions, and with Amil not being so confident in her path, it was even easier for her to fall for the illusions. Her classmates looked like they had their lives together, and that's what she longed for.
Amil wasn't sure if moving out would actually help her get her life together, or if it would only build an illusion, so for now, that option was pushed to the back of her mind and now came the option to put an exuberant amount of the money into her craft. The idea of taking a leap of faith and publishing her magazine, then using some of the funds to put into the production of her docu series. Frankly, these appeared to be the better options in her opinion.
As bad as it sounded, Amil loved drowning herself with work for her blog. When her mind was so focused on the mental deadlines that she granted herself, there wasn't any room to sit and dwell on anything that would've sent her into a spiral. Currently, Amil was at work, in spite of receiving a good amount of money, quitting her job never crossed her mind. The job was much too lenient to let it slip through her fingers.
"Help me find something blue." Amil instructed Mei, she then grabbed the remote for the TV that was in ceiling and proceeded to change the music from today's popular music, to a curated early 2000s mix from YouTube. "Something blue? You and Zion getting married?" Mei quizzed, causing Amil's heart to burst at the mention of Zion's name. She wasn't privy to the news that the couple split, mainly because Amil didn't want to elaborate on the reason why. They were becoming good friends, but not good enough for Amil to willingly share something like that.
"No, my dad and his fiancée's wedding is this this weekend. I wanna do something nice and bring something blue for the bride to be." Amil explained. She figured it was the least she could do, considering she wasn't super involved with the planning.
"When I get married—can you bring me something borrowed and let me borrow your blue Manolos." Mei quipped. Amil's eyebrows furrowed together as she made up her face, "Hell naw, those are my wedding shoes." She replied. Despite who gave them to her, she never planned on giving them up. To be quite honest, she didn't plan on giving back any of the things Zion gave her. They were hers and very innocent in all of this mess.
"Can you check if a dasher picked up our food yet?" Mei asked. As always, the girls had plans of enjoying lunch together. Instead of going out to get said lunch, they ordered it since Amil announced that she had some door dash credits. "Yeah." Amil replied, grabbing her phone from beside her. Grabbing the phone made the screen light up, which landed her attention on a text from Zion.
Amil believed she always proved the theory that if you thought about someone long enough, they'd end up reaching out to you. With just having Zion on her mind for a few moments, he ended up sending her text within that time frame. He was still sending her songs and song lyrics, today's song was I Apologize by Anita Baker. Amil's eyes slightly rolled as she swiped out of her notifications and proceeded to tap over to the door dash app.
