This isn't new to me. I've been in a situation where I had crushes. During elementary school, I saw myself simping over a guy in Grade 5-Mabini who happened to be our school's representative for the Inter-School pageant.
But that became the worst experience I had.
When he knew I'm crushing on him, he really spread the news to the point that it reached our teachers. They mocked me, and what's worse was that the boys in our section bullied me.. for being a gay.
That was also the time when I really found myself hiding behind the closed doors and not wanting everyone to see the real me because I'm afraid that it would be a reason for them to bully me.
I just shrugged my thoughts off when I was about to leave our house. Napagplanuhan ko kasing dumaan kila Zane para tumulong sa mga kailangan niyang dalhin.
I was about to walk when Zane's family car stopped in front of me.
"Sakay na, Keith!" It turns out, Zane asked his mother to drive to our house to fetch me instead of waiting for me at their home.
"Handa ka na?" Tanong ko rito.
"Hopefully. Pero kakayanin siguro? Hahahaha!" Sagot nito.
"Mananalo ka, promise." Pagpapalakas ko ng loob niya.
When we finally reached the school, Zane went to the candidates' room together with his hair and make up artist. Hindi kasi pwede si Ate Zab ngayon at may lab exam pa raw kaya kumuha na lang sila.
I decided to put our things in our room. Kai joined me carrying the cheering materials we'll be using earlier for the pageant. Agad din naman kaming pinababa para sa awarding ceremony para sa mga nanalo sa iba't ibang patimpalak na nangyari sa buong buwan ng July.
Students were sitting in the gymnasium as the emcee was announcing the names of students to receive the certificates of appreciation for joining the different contests.
"And now, let's all announce the winners for the different contests!" Saad ng emcee.
Athena became third placer. Agad naman itong dinaluhan ng adviser namin para samahang tumanggap ng tropeyo at medalya. They also took a picture before the emcee decided to announce the winners for essay writing contest.
Our representative also won, Peter won second place. Same as Athena, Ms. Domingo also joined him as they received the awards.
And when it was the time for announcing the winners for poster making contests, it sent me cold air which made me feel nervous and gave me goosebumps.
"We'll be announcing the winners for the individual category. For our third runner up… Congratulations to the Grade 8 representative!"
I was losing my hope that I could still win the contest knowing that the representative of grade 8 actually had a poster that had a potential to win first place.
wala na sa third… paano pa sa second at first?
I was losing hope when they called the Grade 9 representative as the second placer.
Sa by pair category na lang siguro ako.
"Now, for this year's champion, the winner will also be with our past champions to compete outside the school competitions too! So let's announce this!"
Athena was massaging my back as she wanted to comfort me.
"Now, for our champion! Let's all give a round of applause for…
The representative of Grade 7, Keith Elton Villega!" Anunsyo ng emcee.
I was stunned by how the result was announced. Hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala!
