Sakayanagi bursted into a cackle, an insane glint forming in her eyes.

"Looks like we're both wrong."

"You transferred into Class D?" I asked.

"Correct, I postponed the match until 6 for a reason."

"So you predicted we would have matches like this and decided to spend 20 million private points for this?"

"Once again, you are correct. I knew you would be lured in by my statement of liking chess. After all, you wanted to verify my personality and abilities. Thus it was a safe conclusion to assume you would offer a chess match. Then, that gave me the opportunity to suggest a match without suspicion and lure you into losing like that."

"Wasn't it a jump to assume I would narrow it down that far?"

"No, it wasn't. I'm sure my questions helped lead you into asking the first several questions. That meant you could be safely led into the idea that I was talking about a person. Even my wording of 'is the animal a specific species' helped lead you into that direction."

"What if you didn't go first? Wouldn't that have made your plans fall flat? I highly doubt you thought of me as kind enough to give you the first turn."

"It's simple, you didn't know what 20 questions was."

"And how would you know that?" I asked, my eyes narrowing.

I had two ideas of how she knew.

"From the information I gathered, during your competition against Nagumo senpai, you didn't know any basic games or activities. Thus, it was safe to conclude you also didn't know 20 questions."

"That's still quite the gamble."

I didn't understand why she would waste so many private points and take such a risk for it being a complete waste. Furthermore, she didn't even achieve a win here. She must have known that obtaining a win under these conditions was extremely unlikely, and yet she went through with this anyway.

"It's to show how serious I am," Sakayanagi said, cutting my thoughts off.

"What?"

"You were wondering why I did such a thing, were you not? And I answered. This is proof of my resolve."

She read my thoughts? No. It was an easy guess to make. However, she still went through with it while maintaining her confidence. To show her resolve? That could easily be a bluff. This entire thing could be for me to get a certain picture in my head about her, when in fact she isn't that way.

"Is it so hard to accept my words as truth?" Sakayanagi asked with an innocent smile while tilting her head.

"It could all be a bluff."

"I suppose it could be. However, I haven't lied at all. Everything I've said is the truth."

"And what evidence do you have to support that?"

This was all likely to mess with my head. By adding doubt, she could make me never reach a conclusion. That would give her an overwhelming advantage that can't be crossed.

"Always so distrustful of others, I find that rather sad," Sakayanagi said with a look of pity on her face.

That look of pity made an uncomfortable feeling come across me.

"Why is it that you're so distrustful of others? Could it be that you've been betrayed in your past?"

I froze. Betrayed. That word. I hate that word. However, I needed to calm down. She didn't know anything. She couldn't know anything. It was all a test to gauge my reaction. To make me unnerved.
