~Chapter 4~
Chan was already a mess, but now he was utterly gone, watching Felix walk away from him. Begging to God, it wasn't noticeable how fast his heart was beating as Seungmin stood in front of him or how hot the tip of his ears were getting.
"So you're the one who caught my ball," he said to him.
"Player 11," Chan mumbled out, nowhere near as collected as Changbin was.
"I'm sorry," he laughed, tilting his head at him.
"Um, sorry, Seungmin." He nervously laughed as he lifted the ball up to him. His stomach turned as Seungmin purposely placed his hand under his and accepted the ball.
"You know, it's quite impressive. How you caught the ball," he said as he signed the ball.
"I really just put my hand up," Chan said, playing it off as not a big deal.
"Hm, still, we'll have to watch out for you. You might steal my spot," he giggled as he handed the ball back to him.
"Thank you,"
"You're welcome. See you soon, okay," he winked before returning to the others. "Who wants pictures?? Jeongin, come here!" he yelled.
Chan furrowed his eyebrows as he turned his head to him, following his movement. What did he mean by 'see you soon' and the wink? He looked back at his hand as Jeongin, the bodyguard, passed by him, looking down at the signature on his ball.
"From Player 11 +82-9-960-6830. Call me whenever you're free."
Chan's eyes widened as he saw the number written on the ball. He gave him his number!! His cheeks instantly flushed red as a million things ran through his mind. Could he tell how nervous he was? Oh my god, of course, it was super obvious. He thought to himself. He looked at the ball again, assuming he would see something different this time. He slapped his hand over his mouth when he didn't, and his writing was still clearly visible on the ball.
"Hey Chan, come take a picture," Changbin eagerly smiled, calling him over after they finished their individual selfies. Chan took a deep breath, desperately trying to compose himself, before he walked over to them. Seungmin giggled, noticing the pale, lowered expression on his face, knowing it was because of him.
Changbin and Seungmin stood together in the center with the kids piled in front of them. Felix was already standing next to Changbin, so Chan was forced to move over by Seungmin, keeping a small distance from him.
"A little closer, everyone," Jeongin said, motioning his hand inward. Chan took a small, hesitant step towards Seungmin, still desperately trying to maintain that distance from him. He was already panicking, and this was only making things worse.
"A little closer," Seungmin softly repeated as he grabbed the hem of his black hoodie and gently pulled him closer. He stumbled as he shifted over to him, his body trembling as Seungmin firmly rested his hand on the small of his back to hold him up.
"Perfect," Jeongin smiled as he repositioned the phone before them. Chan bit the bottom of his lip as he looked forward to Jeongin. I don't think he has ever been more embarrassed than he was right then. And he knew he was a blushing mess. It didn't help that Seungmin kept his hand on his back or that he could feel his gaze as he stared at him. He was enjoying himself, he could tell.
He held his breath as Jeongin counted down before he took the photo of them all. "Okay, good," he smiled, lowering the phone. Everyone relaxed themselves, and as much as he didn't want to, Seungmin removed his hand from his back and let him go.
"Thank you so much for coming out," Changbin said to Seungmin. I'm sure the kids really appreciated it." He happily smiled, looking at his team, still admiring their signed caps.
"I'm sure you, too," Seungmin softly smiled at him, knowing he was probably happier than them. It's okay; it was my pleasure, honestly," he laughed, catching the embarrassment covering his face.
"Kids say thank you to Mr. Kim," Felix said.
"Thank you, Mr. Kim," they all loudly said in unison. You're very welcome. Make sure you have fun at all your games," he brightly smiled at them before heading back inside with Jeongin.
He gave Chan one quick glance, giggling at his cheek, still prominently burnt red, before retreating inside.
"I think you handle that well," Felix laughed as he walked over to Chan.
"Felix," he lowly called as he raised his hand up to him. His still-shocked eyes stared desperately into his.
"What's wrong," he nervously asked as he looked down and took the ball from him. He rolled it once, moving his thumb to see the ink clearly. Omg. OMG," Felix shockingly said, getting louder with realization.
"Felix, stop," Chan pleaded with him.
"Chan, that's a number. That's his number!! Omg!!" he over excitedly repeated.
"Thank god you didn't freak out," Chan sarcastically said, rolling his eyes as he snatched the ball back from him.
"How ironic this is.." Felix laughed.
"What is," Chan asked as he continued to eye the ball. Still not convinced he's not imagining things.
"The most play you've gotten in years happens to be at a baseball game," he playfully teased.
"Ha ha," he scoffed, leaving him and walking over to Changbin.
"I'm sorry. I was just kidding," he laughed as he followed him. ~~
