~Chapter 3~

September 13th, 2023: 10:30 AM,

Seungmin had always loved Wednesday because, besides Sunday, it was the only day of the week that allowed him to visit his father earlier in the day. He glanced up at the ding, watching the door part as he stepped off the elevator and politely bowed to the nurses surrounding the floor. A fresh bouquet of flowers dangling at his side.

Despite his constant reminders, he had still forgotten them the day before. He laughed at the irony—walking down the same hospital halls with flowers in hand. But this time, it was his father's room he was destined to.

He was never really fond of flowers. He could never comprehend the way a thing so vibrant and beautiful, a sight adored and appreciated by many, could just wilt away, leaving behind nothing more than a memory of what it used to be—making one yearn, desperately seeking a replacement to fill the void of what was lost.

He sighed, looking up at Chan lingering in front of his father's door. "Seungmin!!" He loudly calls out for him.

"It's too early for you to be this energetic," Seungmin retorted, rolling his eyes at him.

"Was I too loud?? I'm just excited to see you," Chan grinned, instantly raising his hands back to his head. He chuckled as Seungmin quickly snapped his head back to dodge him.

"Quit it," he sneered, moving past him and reaching out for the door.

"NO!! I mean..." Chan nervously laughed, "Y-You just got here, aren't you hungry?? I'm sure the cafeteria just put out the last of breakfast." He smiled, grabbing Seungmin's shoulders and guiding him away from the door.

"Stop!! I want to see my dad," Seungmin angrily snapped, breaking free from Chan's grip. "What's your problem?" He yelled, watching Chan quickly jump back in front of the door.

"N-Nothing."

"Then can you please move??" he calmly asked, trying to remain respectful knowing he was older than him.

"I can't,"

"Doctor Bang, please just tell me what's wrong," he calmly urged, trying not to let his imagination think for him. Even with the fearful look on Chan's face as he stared back at him. "Please," he pleaded softly, getting more anxious as Chan remained silent.

"Seungmin, please breathe for me," Chan said, instinctively reaching out for the younger.

"I-Is..." Seungmin stuttered, dropping the flowers at his feet as his hand rose to his chest, clutching his heart. Desperately shaking his head, failing to control his emotions as they quickly overtook him.

Chan felt immobilized standing in front of Seungmin, clearly watching him begin to break down in front of him. He was warned not to utter a word to Seungmin, but how could he not?

He figured his mind was jumping to all sorts of worse-case scenarios, and he couldn't sit there and watch him suffer like this. He glanced past Seungmin, wishing Doctor Kim would appear and save him from this.

Chan let out a small sigh, looking back down at Seungmin. His face flushed red and tensed, probably trying to suppress himself from crying. The fear that once occupied his face was now prominently apparent in the younger eyes as he stared up at him, desperate for answers.

"Seungmin, please don't cry..." Chan said softly, reaching up to brush away the tears that inevitably dropped from his eyes. "Please, if you cry, then I'll start crying...and I'm not ready to show you how sensitive I am," Chan lightly laughed, still quickly brushing away any tears that fell from Seungmin's eyes.
