He still remembered that day so vividly. Now, it seemed to be the only thing clouding his thoughts. He remembers how lovely the day was. It was summer. It was so nice that day, with the sun shining brightly over the area of the small town park—what should've been the perfect happy day. At least for anybody but Seungmin.
"Need a tissue??" he remembered hearing a voice softly whispered beside him.
"Huh??" he replied, sniffling as he quickly glanced at the source. A man dressed in all black sat beside him, which was already strange considering how hot it was outside.
"I'm sorry. I heard you crying. I had extras," he gently offered, slightly holding out an opened tissue box to him. The man didn't look at him, instead, his gaze was fixed on the sky above him. Seungmin still noticed he'd been crying, too; it wouldn't take a genius to figure it out.
His face was red, a deep red that flushed throughout his entire skin, and his eyes were puffy, matching the tone of his face. Seungmin could only bet he looked the exact same way.
"Um...thank you," he said, hesitantly reaching out to take a tissue and wipe the tears from under his eyes.
"I don't want to seem weird," he broke the silence with a nervous laugh.
"I don't think you're weird," Seungmin quickly responded—a little too soon because the man fell into a fit of laughter, clearly seeing right through him.
"You totally do," he laughed more. Seungmin opened his mouth to argue, but the man continued before he could get any words out. "It's okay. I'd think I was weird, too."
He explained that he had been crying all morning, hoping being outside would make him feel less heartbroken, and that's when he saw him. "I had extras," he said softly, choking back emotions as he finished reliving his own day.
"Thank you," Seungmin said quickly, offering him a warm smile as best as he could manage. He was taken aback at the similarities of their situations. Both had been crying all day, searching for peace in the fresh air, bringing them to the park. Seungmin just hadn't thought to grab tissues on his way out.
"I guess this won't help me much," he sniffled. "I mean, with the whole being weird thing," he chuckled again. "But when I was younger, whenever I cried, getting ice cream would always make me feel better," he smiled. "Would you want to go with me??" he asked.
Seungmin recalled the question so distinctly, the way his heart skipped a beat when the man turned to look at him. His smile was so pretty, and his gaze was so gentle. And before he realized it, his body was reacting before he could think, finding himself nodding yes as a response.
That was the day he met Chan—on a random summer day in the park. Seungmin never asked why Chan was crying, but maybe he should've; perhaps it would've given him a reason to say no.
~~
It's been a little over a month since their breakup. Since Seungmin vowed to be done with him, and he meant it at first. "Fuck him," he declared confidently before heading home that day.
