Wednesday's Pov:
Coming out of her meeting with her father she immediately entered her family's car. The moment the car clicked a dark veil fell upon the the vehicle, allowing her to see you sitting next to her. Looking out the window as the car begins to move away.
"What did he say?" you ask, tearing your gaze from the window with worried eyes. Your nose was heavily bleeding for you had your third demon's domain activated to hide both of you while the fourth's illusion ability made a fake her that appeared to be sitting claimly in the car alone.
"He lied," she states, "The very man who threw me into shark-infested waters, gave me a rapier at the tender age of 5; the right way to flay a rattlesnake-"
You lift an eyebrow, clearly asking her if she was serious. She sighs, "If I'm being objective, his confession sounds entirely plausible. Delivered with the perfect degree of sincerity. Perhaps my father is exactly how he says he is or what you assume he is by his actions with me. But then there's the matter of his telling- the way he smooths his mustache; the way he delivers a comforting wink to me. I've been playing Russian roulette with him since I was 12, I know when he's lying."
"Then he's protecting the real murder who must be close to him," you conclude. She fights the desire to smile. Someone else would've said that maybe he was fooling her for he knew how she knew how he told lies. But you picked up right away where she was going.
"Your call, what do you want me to do?" you ask.
"Go back to the school and stick to our original case while I explore the cemetery. Our unknown enemy is trying to derail me from the case by having this arise after what happened. They will be making a move now that all eyes are on this case."
"Fair, but seriously I can help like finding more on the Gates family." your pinky holds hers. Although her face was stoic like always her heart was having a heart attack. You were willing to stand by her side even though being involved with her would put a stain on your reputation. It made her feel warm inside. What a revolting feeling you've made me taste today Y/N.
"Agree, but don't be too obvious."
"I know." before you get activate your shadow ability to get out of the car you tighten your grip on her pinky. "FYI, your brother is feeling a bit depressed based on what Y/B/N has texted me. You should visit him when you see him. He looks like he needs a family member to get him out of his head. It's really important to be close to family during these times...."
Your eyes get clouded with sadness. "Stay safe my love."
With that, the shadows swallow you and you reappear out of the shadows of an alley only to disappear in a blink thanks to your super speed. Right when you leave so does the demonic presence in the car. "Always worrying about others mi amore. That will get you killed if you're not careful."
"Take me to the Sheriff's office Lurch." Her gaze darkens, "I have a bird to kill."
The conversation with the Sheriff turned out to be nothing more but a waste of precious time. All he did was be his ignorant self who didn't see the large burning writing on the wall that clearly stated that someone was pulling the strings to distract all of you from the monster case. Luckily, you weren't so easily blinded even though you were more than willing to put the case aside to help her family.
You're not even apart of my family yet you're the only one that has offered me a hand in helping prove his innocence, she thinks walking back into the school. The warm fuzzy feeling hadn't left her and now the moths in her stomach were acting up once again. It still drove her crazy and made her squirm but at the same time comforted her. It was proof that what she felt towards you wasn't lust but love. Slowly, she was starting to understand it more but it still made her feel like a stranger in her own body.
Walking past the field full of families she realizes that all of them are smiling and laughing while sitting around small fires or playing games. If her family was still together they would've been sitting around doing some witchcraft or roasting a snake instead of marshmallows. Her father and mother would be flirting and Pusgley would be excited while she would be sitting in silence wishing for death. A death that wouldn't come because no one had the gale to kill her and also most importantly you wouldn't let it happen one way or the other.
You. Her darling yet headache-giving lover in bloody armor. Who was currently nowhere to be seen, nor half of your diligent. From what she remembered Edin saying earlier in the morning, you were one of the few that barley did any activities during Parent week for you were always dragged to the library to handle official business or training. Luckily it worked in both of your favors.
This may be the first Parent Weekend she actually isn't tied down to whoever her parents sent her. Images of your sorrow-infested eyes flash before her eyes as she remembers the lunchroom talks with your other friends. Your smile didn't reach your eyes and your elbow purposely sought comfort in her touch by bumping into her elbow resting on the table. Or how you kept picking at yourself during the sparring session when your strikes weren't quicker when in reality they appeared like a work of art to her. Yet, neither in those moments nor in others that happened throughout the week didn't she provide you comfort like you had when you asked her if she would be okay or if she needed help. I've been a terrible lover.
Just as she was about to search for you she remembered what you told her about how family needed to stay together and help each other during dark times. With an eye roll she went to look for her little brother who was luckily by the lake.
Immediately upon sensing her, he pulled off a her by telling her to leave him but that wasn't going to work. His voice was too soft and his body lacked the confidence to back up the strong words. It pulled her heart that he was trying to be strong but was only crumbling faster with the mask on.
Sitting next to him and handing him his fishing gear.
"Stop being nice. It doesn't suit you." he states with a hint of fear. Good he still fears me.
"Father packed your favorite bait" she states, not taking the bite. Yes, he was her little brother who she had a soft spot for but he couldn't break her. Not like you did, maybe that's why she fell for you? You did things no one else could accomplish with her.
For the next 5 minutes she did her best to distract her brother by having him throw grenades into the pond after explaining what could happen to their father. Pusgley's face did get a bit brighter with each explosion and wave of dead fishes rising. With each one her barley visible smile shined a bit brighter for the only one who could make her brother miserable was her- no one else.
"I'm going to miss him Wednesday," he cries upon remembering that this was his favorite activity with their father.
"This isn't over yet. He's innocent"
"Well, if anyone can figure it out it's you Wednesday," he states with a small smile. Hope was flickering in his eyes once again like the sunlight on the lake. Pride blooms into her chest upon hearing those words. Yes, she would like she always had. She would solve this and the monster case because it was who she was. And with you by her side it would be quicker than ever.
"Until that happens Mother will be falling apart," she gives him a serious look. "Which means we'll need to be strong. And by 'we' I mean you."
He gives her a small nod and hands her a grenade, solidifying the deal. "Now where is Mother?"
"She said she wanted to be alone but..." Pusgley shuffles and looks at his dangling feet."
"But what?" Wednesday's stomach begins to turn as if a knife was being twisted. Pusgley glances over and fiddles with the ring of the generade in is hands. Not knowing whether to pull the pin to the bomb he was about to release or not. "But what Pusgley?!"
"I... I saw her being escorted by the Earl of Vampires back into the school- Wednesday?!"
The gothic Latina abruptly got up as if she was electrocuted. Her eyes full of rage's fire with a small flicker of fear. Pusgely has never seen his sister's eyes appear darker than the night.
