Wednesday's POV:

Why are people so caught up in this insignificant dance! It's not like it's a dance that will have the unity of two powerhouses- closing her eyes tightly she remembered what you told her. Maybe that's why even people outside of Nevermore like Taylor and other normies were talking about it. A prince- a crown prince of a one of the strongest and largest outcast species that was in equal footing with Vampires was coming to visit a small town that the world didn't even know existed till you entered Nevermore and all remembered that the great writer Edgar Allen Poe went to. People only remember he lived in Baltimore.

"If only that stupid prince was the beast." she whispers, studying Xavier's drawing.

"Sorry what was that?" asks Eugene as he stared in amazement at the newest information of the case.

"I was just trying to figure out if this gives me any answers."

Eugene nodded and asked if that was the beast before going on a rant on how he always knew that it was a monster doing the killings and not a bear for it didn't fit well with the animal's hibernation patterns. As he talked he looked a bit down for his hobby of going into the forest to collect bug samples to study.

Wednesday silently agreed with him. Only fools would truly believe said explanation of the murders which many were falling for. It felt nice to see another other than you who saw through the facade. But you were at least trying to do something.

"Speaking of monsters with sharp claws, could you give this to your roomie? Put in a good word for me? I heard she still sans date for the Rave'N." he gives her a nervous smile while holding a jar of fresh jar of honey. A simple prom proposal that fitted well with the socially awkward boy.

Just when I thought I could escape all that buzzing. "Eugene" please stop talking about that cursed thing and about that other cursed thing.

"I know the chances of her asking me are next to zero, but I don't care! I'll keep putting myself out there till she sees me."

"And if she never does?" Wednesday asks, hoping to save the boy from the pain she was going through thanks to you. Books always made longing seem like something magical and romantic but in reality, it was torture. It blinded people from reality. It was so long that it was impossible to find the end of it unless you ripped it with your bare hands. It appeared like a white veil- mimicking a bride's veil, but the longer the dragged one down it slowly got dirty till it was black like a funeral veil, fitting into the grave it had placed one in.

"She will. I'm playing the long game. My moms says people will appreciate me when I'm older. I know they're probably trying to make me feel better but-"

"Listen. People like me and you are different. We're original thinkers, intrepid outliers in this vast pool of cesspool adolescents. We don't need these inane rites of passages to validate who we are."

"Yeah I know but still, I don't want to die without experience a bit of romance you know. Man Y/N has it lucky- she's an Earl! One way or another men and women fall for her! I wouldn't be shocked if the crown prince was in love with her and announced a marriage after this or something since it's quite common for people of their positions to appear a few times in public together before announcing a betrothed."

That felt like a punch in the gut for Wednesday. Eugene was right, that is how politics worked. Now that she looked back, before she met you the media was bombing with images of prince Dimitri with you at events. Most importantly, he was one of your main supports in your mission to make more outcast schools available internationally. In all those images, even in images with more people posing for the camera, he was always close to you with an arm over your shoulder smiling. And you gave him the same sincere smile he gave you, the very smile you would give her. A smile that was now disappearing from her grasp.
