Y/N's pov:
You honestly don't know how you ended up in this awkward situation, but here you were with Mrs. Addams in the darkness of the Nightshades' supposed secret hideout.
Wednesday is so going to kill me..... Or her mother. You think as you see Morticia Addams stroll around the library. Once in a while glancing over at the staircase you dutifully stood from, watching her like a hawk. But really you were a bird caught in a widow's web, waiting to be eaten alive slowly.
"The rumors of your penetrating gaze are true. You remind me of an old friend that I just reunited with." she says, pulling her glance from you to some random book about sirens. "Interesting how the brain works. It can make you forget people close to your heart so easily like it's yet when it remembers it refuses to let it go again. Sometimes it's almost as if someone pulled it from your mind-"
"I apologize for my forwardness Lady Addams but aren't you growing tired of this dance you dragged us both into?" For the past hour, you have been accompanying her just as she had requested.
When you came back from helping Wednesday see her father you were heading back to your room to continue the investigation but light sobs tore your attention. There in one of the exiled hallways stood none other than Morticia Addams, looking out the window. Being the gentlewoman you were raised to be, you tried to provide comfort by giving her your handkerchief. But the moment your fingers touched she had a vision.
Unlike Wednesday, her visions didn't put her into cardiac arrest, instead it made her do a jolt. From the gentle smile she gave you, she clearly saw something that you hoped was good news. Immediately, she requested your company during her trying times. You did as she requested in hopes to find out what she saw. But like the noble she was, she knew how to gracefully avoid you indirect questions. Hence, the stale mate you were checked into.
Yes, you had ways to make people talk but this was your girlfriend's mother! Even though she didn't get along with her that didn't give you the right to use your interrogation tactics to get her to confess. It also didn't help that some of her comments threw you off like talking about a friend you reminded her about or how scarcely close she got to figuring out your Godfather's ability that allowed him to manipulate people's memories.
"Sharp as the rumors claim. I too have grown tired of this dance." she turns to face you. "When did you start courting my daughter?"
Your face shows no reaction at the reveal. You stay claim and instead offer her a confused face. How the hell did she figure it out?!
"Apologies my Lady, but I'm not in a relationship with your daughter- Wednesday I believe. We're just peers that only share the lunch hour. Outside of that, we don't see each other."
She lets out a soft chuckle and nods. "Last I checked, simple peers don't embrace each other in such a passionate way as if they were scared of losing each other. Or do you have feelings for her my grace?"
You fight the urge to widen your eyes in shock and bite your tongue. She was talking about her vision! Scared of losing each other!?
"That is none of your concern. I shall excuse myself now for it seems you have returned to your normal self. Good day-"
"Promise me you'll keep her safe. She tends to not take care of herself and put herself in danger she hasn't prepared herself for to protect others." You stop walking up the staircase.
This isn't the first time she does something like this? You sink your fangs into your tongue that was fighting to slip out and ask Morticia Addams more questions. However, you couldn't stop the extremely small smile from grazing your lips. A smile you were sure her mother saw but you didn't care because what she had mentioned proved that your girlfriend wasn't as heartless as she claims she is. Always knew you had a soft spot.
"Hello Earl Y/L/N.... Mother."
I'm fucked. Snapping your head from her mother you meet with enraged black eyes that tore into you like the black hole they were.
With a bow to both of them you left them in the room. Not before Wednesday shoulder checked you and stabbed your right knuckle with her nails. The side eye she gave you told you that you would be having a conversation with her soon.
Welp, I might as well get what I can out of this cave case before I'm murdered.
Wednesday's POV:
Once you were out of the room, Wednesday felt the air return to her lungs that brought her rage back to life. Glaring at her mother who gave her a nonchalant look as she descended from the stairs. "You push away my brother- your son yet welcome someone who isn't from the family. Do you have hope in her rather than your own daughter to solve this case?"
Her mother smiles and shakes her head no. "On the country, I just simply wanted to see the face of someone that their lover made me and others forget. Truly makes me wonder how he suffers under the blessing of seeing her through the Earl."
"Is that why you pushed Pugsely away? Does he remind you of Father? You claim not to fall into the norm yet here you are- pushing your child away for they remind you someone you no longer have. " What old friend? Y/N mother? Isn't she alive? Or does she have a step-mother? Is that why I sense a distance between her and her parents?
"The way you say that sounds like you know the Earl's family isn't close. Almost as if you both are quiet... intimate with each other." At those words she scoffs. Hoping to hide the alarms going off in her head. Her mother knew about the relationship. But how? Did she ask the spirits? Or was it a vision?
"So, you're a Nightshade," her mother says, moving the conversation. Clearly she was scared of Wednesday running away.
In a claim manner Wednesday went off on her mother. The longer she went down the list of things her mother did that she accidentally fell into perfectly. Winning the POE Cup that she won 4 times. She was in the fencing team she captained. The more she went on the more she realized she was becoming with her. Your secret romance with her was just the final nail in the coffin. A nail that made her bleed out and groan in pain yet didn't have the will to rip off. "Why did you send me somewhere I could only exist in your shadow?"
"It's not a competition-"
"It's always a competition," she states. Then again, your guy's relationship did start as a competition in a sense. You both were trying to capture the beast until you both came together as a team. Hell, you both hid your relationship as a forced friendship that was the outcome of a hunting competition! In the light you both were rivals- enemies but in the shadows lovers who had to accept the limited space the darkness gave you to indulge in each other.
With a sigh she stopped and got to the point. The sooner she got this over with the sooner things would return to how they were.
"Honestly, I wish I could forget that night Wednesday. If only I could reach out to him and ask him to erase that day from our minds- especially from the sheriff who has been after your father for so long."
"Enough of the games mother. Father didn't kill Garret Gates did he?" And who does she keep mentioning? Erasing memories? Can someone in Y/N family do that? Great now I have to solve the batwings issue and memory manipulation!
"Just tell me what happened that night and I can assure you father will be a free man."
With a smile her mother tells her, her tale of love and tragedy. The longer she went on about how Garret tried to kill her father for his madness born out of love- love that came from a man who came from a family that hated people like her mother- an outcast; she couldn't help but think of Xavier. The way he reacted when he realized Wednesday's invitation to the dance wasn't true and spoke terrible things about you with such rage made her wonder if his love for her would drive him into madness and try to harm you. Would he dare? Was she truly becoming like her mother? Was a tragic story going to repeat itself but in a new format? If, so then who would die? All players are outcasts. Would Xavier die, you, or her? Was Xavier the one who burns down Nevermore and drags you down with him?
These questions haunted her as she left the academy with her mother to unbury the past. Secretly, she hoped she would unbury answers to her newest questions or bury them deep for a bit till she solved her father's case.
