Author's note: Hey guys! I'm back! So sorry for disappearing for a bit! The school year started again and this quarter is heavy with classwork! So updates will not be as often as they were over the summer. Without further ado enjoy this new chapter!
Wednesday's Pov:
"Goody said I was destined to be alone. Maybe it's inevitable. For the first time in my life it doesn't feel good" Wednesday stopped typing. The words didn't feel right nor did they show what she was trying to tell you. Then again how could she tell you that she loved you after the destruction she did? What type of lover uses the trauma of their loved one against them? Even in a fight not even the Devil would do that to his Queen.
The devil.... She had practically delivered you to his daughter's arms. At least Evelynn had the consideration to not smile when she took you and your friends away. Doesn't mean she wasn't laughing and smiling viciously after that whole situation.
Ripping the paper off the type writer and crumpling it she threw it into her basket that was now appearing like a snowcone due to how many times she tried to rewrite that damn letter.
"Keep doing that you going to kill all the trees!" pokes her Uncle Fester who had just woken up from a small nap on her bed. "So, your gonna really make me ask who got you in this rut? I know it can't be writer's block or else hell would be frozen!"
"No one- how dare you!?" Her uncle had to doven into the basket to fish out a handful of letters and began reading them out loud. Each word caused his eyes to widen bigger than a lion seeing its prey injured before it. His smile was rivaling the Cheshire cat's, twinkling like his eyes. He even had the gall to poke fun at her by saying she wasn't alone because he was there! He only shut up when she gave him her death glare, causing him to mumble how she was like her mother.
If I was anything like her I wouldn't have hurt Y/N in the first place.
Scratching her forehead she couldn't help but feel a bit relieved you weren't with her right now. Not just because her Uncle would probably embarrass her. But because Mayor Walker was murdered. And the murderer was yet to be found.
Currently, some people were whispering it was you since you weren't there. Luckily what she assumed were your human followers covered you up by stating you had left during the day. Hours before the mayor's registered death.
Doesn't matter. Her name is still clean and she is safe.....the images of her vision turned the rusted chipped knife that was in her stomach. Maybe you weren't.
"Wednesday?" Her uncle's face was twisted with concern. Shaking her head she asked him to show her the hidden journal he mentioned earlier in the day. Right now everyone was at the reception dinner. It was now or never.
They split up immediately to avoid suspicion. Entering the room she called out to him only to be answered by a prickly Xavier.
"I'm an actual Nightshade so I can be here. But you're not. What's your excuse for creeping around in the middle of the night? Doing errands for the spoiled Earl?"
"The only spoiled one I see in this school is you. You are the one that throws a tantrum every time I reject your advances or do something you don't approve of." She says, trying her hardest to bite down the growling anger from within. Her clenching knuckles did little to relieve her.
"Answer this at least, are you into people who cause harm to others? First Taylor and now Y/N?"
"Maybe I am but it; 's none of your concern Xavier. I'm not digging into your problematic telovena life." she scoffs turning away.
"You know what your problem is?" he shouts after her. She turns immediately. Challenging him to tell her he claims is that she doesn't know who her true friends are. He wasn't wrong truthfully. Ever since she was a child she never really had friends, especially after Nero's death. And the one friendship that she had developed had evolved into a courtship with you. But even then she was always a bit suspicious of you.
He went on passionately how he was on her side from the start of the investigation and saved her life. Each time he listed the things he did she mentally countered it by stating that you did something similar but didn't demand her to surrender her black heart to you. In the country, you just asked work together to solve the murders. You never expected anything from her or vice versa yet you both ended up getting something you both were secretly hoping for the very thing Xavier wanted from her- love.
"And what do I get in return? Suspicion and lies!" he marches out of the room, shoulder-checking her. She rolled her eyes for he had just proved to her that he was indeed a drama queen and spoiled brat who couldn't take "no" for an answer.
Once he was gone and prevented Thing from killing her Uncle she soon got her hands on the Nathaniel Faulkner's dairy. There she found what the monster was- a Hyde. Putting the pieces together it was clear that the it's master didn't want her dead and saw you as a threat due to how the monster ran away from you when it saw you were with her at the meeting house. Solidifying the fact that the enemy was indeed inside Nevermore and it had to be someone in administration for only administrators had the keys to enter your room. But who?
She confirmed that Weems wasn't the monster but that doesn't excuse her from being its master. She knows the power Y/N wields and my obsession with the case. And if Xavier is the monster then it would make sense- her puppet is close enough to control without looking suspicious.
Before she could continue to make her makeshift image of the case with the latest information a knock shattered it all the pieces away.
It was Thornhill and true to her name she gave her information that only pricked at her loneliness.
"You have to admit, Enid brought out a spark of warmth from within you. Just a tiny spark." Thornhill poked at her. "Barley perceptible to the average eye but I noticed it."
Was it really Enid that did that or was it someone else? She wonders. Honestly Nevermore was really testing her to see if she really had a heart of stone or if it was really made out of sand. So far it was made out of sand for it was crumbling away the longer she realized everything she had built was crumbling away under the waves of reality.
Thornhill went on about how roommates can lead to lifetime bonds which only made the sandy world that she thought was bulletproof disappear faster. "I prefer a rope."
"Is it really that hard for you to admit you made a friend? And now that she's gone you might actually miss her? I understand with the young Earl since your friendship began in a very untraditional way but Enid?"
"Y/N is not my friend," sneers Wednesday. Trying her hardest not to show the fire in her eyes. The very fire she wished that could kill her. She never thought she would hate herself. "She could never be, let me make that clear. I'll survive alone. I've always have."
Those last few words came out like puke. Disintegrating her tongue and teeth to the bone. Making her lose touch with herself.
That night as the shadows consumed to take her to Wonderland and Neverland of dreams but all she could see was just darkness. Not even her nightmares or dreams wanted to give her company. Just remind her how she will never have anyone. Just the empty cold darkness.
