Wednesday's pov:
Under the cape of the Goddess Nyx, Wednesday found herself shoulders deep in the gave of a mad lover. For the past 15 minutes, she had made quite the deed on the grave thanks to her childhood hobby of digging up her ancestors' grave in the backyard of her family's mansion. Normally, doing something that one did often in their childhood as a teen would make someone smile but Wednesday's face was frozen in blankness. Not once did she smile as the fresh dirt of decay bloomed in her nose nor how her sleeves got stained with dirt and grass. Instead, she was fighting the desire to frown and snap at her mother who kept talking about her childhood like the time they gave her, her first grave-digging kit.
Getting annoyed with her mother she stopped for the first time and turned to her mother. "Are you sure you don't want to join?"
"Um... that's okay- I don't want to spoil your fun," says her mother checking her freshly painted black nails.
Without another word, she returned to digging. Although digging up graves always distressed her from her family and the world by shoving her stress away or burying it, this time it did nothing to it. Instead, it made her go deeper into it for it would bury her this time.
"You kept mentioning someone with the powers to erase memories earlier. Who was it and how do they play a role in this?" she asks.
She can feel her mother's smile like a spider crawling on her back. The smile sunk it's fangs deep into her neck planning to ask her questions later on why she was so interested in knowing if she wasn't "friends" with you.
"I once had a friend who was a Vampire. I can't remember her name nor any memories I had with her. Yet, when I saw the young Vampiric Earl I was reminded that she did exist and that she was dear to me and many people."
"How do you know that wasn't a figment of your memory or a spirit trying to fool you?"
She hums. Her shadow falls upon Wednesday, trapping her in this story. "Although the mind forgets, the heart doesn't my child. The heart remembers everything it felt. Years after I left Nevermore- the second year I was married to your Father, my heart began to feel heavy while my mind felt light. My heart kept telling me I had forgotten something but no matter what I did to remember I couldn't find it. Your father and other Nightshades felt the same. That feeling of emptiness only felt heavier when I held you as a baby for my body remembered that I once held a child that reminded me of her. I imagine I felt such a way because we probably talked about being mothers at the same time or I held her child. I can't remember if she had a child or not- but that Earl....."
Wednesday nods. The dirt at her feet was starting to become uneven, indicating that she was getting closer to the coffin. Just like she was getting closer to understanding her mother's reaction to you. Or what she thought it was. "Is that why you stuck close to the Earl?"
"Yes. She is a reflection of my old friend. Minus the eyes, they look like that man's."
Wednesday fought the urge to stop digging, instead, she picked up her pace. She was getting close. "And who is this man?"
"The King of Vampires- Cassius Tepes. Son of the father of Vampires and first King of the children of the Night. The House blessed with the wings of the night."
Wednesday felt like the shovel had stuck her and knock the wind out of her. Your Godfather!? You looked like someone he loved!? Could it be that she's the product of a arrange marriage between the Earl and mother? And the one she calls mother is her step-mother!? Do Vampires not believe in the idea of Step parents and siblings?! I knew it only the royal family had the wings! How closely related is the past Earl to the royal family??
