Hazel's POV

"This town is really beautiful, but isn't it too hot?" she said, squinting in the direct sunlight. "Yeah, it's usually pretty warm here," Davis replied with a smile.

"How about we grab some ice cream? I know a great place run by one of my friends."

"Yes, please!" we exclaimed, jumping with happiness, which made Davis smile again. This time, I noticed both annoying friends mimicking us with exaggerated, fake tones, clearly annoyed by our excitement.

"What are you two, five-year-olds?" Kevin sneered, his voice dripping with mockery.

Tash and I exchanged a quick look, and I could tell she was itching to say something back but instead, she just huffed and started walking in the direction Davis had pointed out, leaving the boys to follow or be left behind.

"I think our plan is really working" Tash said with a satisfied smirk with a small nudge on my arm, "look at your baby burning in jealous" she muttered under her breath. Hearing her words i quitely looked around to caught Hyden's eye for a moment, his intense gaze locking onto mine, sending that familiar flutter through my stomach. The threatening look he was giving me was stirring my stomach, reflecting just how much he was pissed. I quickly looked away, pretending to be focused on the path ahead quickly following Tash to the shop.

Davis was right, the shop looked really fancy, with large glass windows that gave us a peek inside. The interior had a cozy Italian vibe, making the place feel like a little slice of Europe in the middle of this small sunny town.

"Wow this place is really cool!" Tash said, her eyes wide with excitement as pushed the door open.

As soon as we stepped inside, the rich smell of freshly made waffle cones and the sweet scent of gelato filled the air, instantly lifting my spirit.

Davis greeted the shop owner with a friendly wave, while Tash and I exchanged excited glances as we saw the counter was lined with rows of colourful gelato, each flavour looking more tempting than the last.

There were wide array of flavours which featured everything from classic flavours like pistachio and stracciatella to more adventurous options like blood orange and tiramisu. We jumped with excitement and hurried to go through the menu, giggling like kids.

Hyden, on the other hand, was still watching me, i could feel his intense gaze burning my back.

Whats with him, cant he just let me enjoy a ice-cream at least??? I ignored him and focused on picking out a flavour, determined to enjoy the moment despite the tension.

"What are you getting?" Davis asked, leaning in a little closer, I glanced at the colourful display, feeling a bit overwhelmed by the choices.

"I think... pistachio, plus chocolate" I finally decided, feeling a little thrilled as i wanted to try something else than strawberry flavour.

"That one really good " he said with a grin. "You're going to love it." he said in approval making me more excited.

After we made our selections, we headed over to the window wall to enjoy our ice cream with a view of the beach. Tash and I purposely sat on the another bench opposite the boys, so we could eat and enjoy the moment peacefully which is a good thing. The cool, creamy gelato was a perfect treat after the heat outside, and the view of the sparkling ocean made it even better just like in school days. We started talking about old stories, the kind that still make you laugh and cringe at the same time.
