Hyden's POV

"Fucking do everything correctly, Eric, or else you can go home!" I roared, throwing the file onto the floor without even sparing him a glance. The sound of papers scattering echoed through the room, sharp and jarring. Eric stood frozen near my desk, his face fixed on the chaos I had just unleashed, but he didn't say a word. My breaths came hard and fast as I pushed my chair back, the sound of it scraping against the floor almost lost beneath the pounding in my chest. I turned away from him, walking toward the glass window that stretched across my office wall, trying to gather myself. The city lights below blurred into streaks, matching the burning haze in my chest that refused to subside. My fist clenched at my side, nails digging into my palm, but the pain wasn't enough to drown out the anger.

The anger wasn't really for Eric. It wasn't for the work or the goddamn files. No, it was for Her.

Her words still echoed in my mind, jagged and cold, cutting deeper every time I thought about them. "I don't want to get married in two weeks."  I could still see her face so clearly, the way her lips trembled. The way her eyes, full of something I couldn't quite place, locked with mine before she turned and ran out of the bridal shop, leaving me standing there like an idiot, surrounded by satin and lace and everything.  No explanation. No discussion. Just those words, and then she was gone.

My jaw tightened, and I pressed my forehead against the cool glass, trying to push away the memory, but it was pointless. It was all I could think about. The way her voice cracked, the way her hand lingered on the fabric of the dress she was supposed to wear, the way her eyes searched mine, almost like she was pleading for something I didn't understand. The thought hit me like a freight train, knocking the air out of my lungs. is she refusing to marry me because of the bastard ,Bryan?  The question burned in my mind, sharp and unforgiving, feeding the fire already raging in my chest. My hand slammed against the glass, the dull ache radiating up my arm doing nothing to soothe the storm inside.

"Sir?" Eric's voice broke through the storm in my mind, hesitant and cautious.

"Get out," I said through gritted teeth, not bothering to turn around. I couldn't face him or anyone right now. I heard him shuffle, the sound of his shoes scraping against the floor as he hesitated, before the soft click of the door closing behind him finally gave me the silence I needed. But even the silence wasn't enough. It couldn't drown out the chaos inside me, the ache that came from wanting answers I knew I might never get.

I gritted my teeth, my chest heaving with every ragged breath as the questions clawed at my mind, refusing to let go. I know how she feels about me. I know it. The way she looked at me when she thought I wasn't paying attention, the way her voice softened when she say my name, the way her presence filled every corner of my world, she couldn't refuse that. She couldn't fake the way she needed me, I knew she needed me, needed us ,as much as I did. She couldn't hide that, no matter how hard she tried to act like it wasn't true.

So why?

Why was she being so stubborn?

Why does she always choose everyone else over me?

I slammed my fist against the edge of the desk, the sharp pain shooting through me a welcome distraction from the chaos in my head. It wasn't fair. None of this was fair.  The frustration burned in my chest, threatening to consume me, hotter and fiercer with every second. Every time she ran, every time she put up those damn walls, it felt like a slap in the face, a rejection of everything I knew we were.
