Hazel's POV

I lost track of Tash and Kevin when we split up during the run. Now, I found myself quietly hiding in a narrow alley behind a large barrel with Hyden, Pressing against the cold stone wall, staying out of sight while the voices of the thugs still murmured in the distance. We had been sprinting to get away when I tripped on a loose cobblestone. Pain shot through my leg, and I stumbled hard, nearly falling onto the rough pavement but Hyden quickly caught me, steadying me just in time. With the thugs close behind, we had no choice but to duck into the nearest alley to hide.

It was dark ,making me more sacred than i was, every shadow was making me paranoid but funny enough despite all this tension i was feeling Hyden's body was so warm against mine, Even in the chaos, I could feel the heat of his skin radiating against mine. His palm was over my mouth, other arm wrapped around me, and strangely i was feeling safe in his hold. Breathing in his strong scent, I slowly look at him through my lashes and my throat tightening when I briefly met His gaze. Dark and smoldering, already bore into mine with an intensity that stole my breath. Why is he looking at me like that? Like this is his first time seeing me??

My pulse raced as I swallowed hard, trying to shift a bit away, but pain shot through my foot. A small hiss escaped before Hyden's hand covered my mouth, silencing me as he leaned in close, his gaze sharp and intense and his breath brushed warmly against my ear, making me freeze as this sudden nervousness started to spread in me as his gaze filled with something that made my stomach flip.

"Shhh..." he whispered, his breath warm against my ear, making me more tensed as we both listened, catching the faint sound of voices nearby.

My pulse quickened and I struggle to stayed still, every muscle tight. The sound of heavy boots grew louder, each step closer. They stopped just outside the alley, only a few feet away. I held my breath, heart racing. The silence felt unbearable. One wrong move, one sound, and we'd be caught. What will happen if they catch us? they were no jokes, with that fear I curled more into Hyden's embrace, trying to make myself as small as possible but made my breath hitched was not only the foot steps of the thug, That was the loud beat of Hyden's chest pounding against mine, a wild drumbeat which I could almost hear between all the chaos going in my head.

I realised his eyes were still locked on mine with amusement clearly evident making me acutely aware of our proximity, the heat radiating between us was electric. he breathed sharp while his left hand slowly moved to the back of my head,  his fingers tangling in my hair. While his other hand forcing me to look up at him not breaking this eye contact we were having. I swallowed hard looking into his dark eyes, my pulse racing, but I didn't dare to move, barely breathing, as the thug's footsteps pounded closer, echoing like a countdown.

"Damn, missed those hot chicks" My eyes widened hearing a rough voice grumbled near us, the tone rough and irritated. I felt Hyden's body tensed instantly, his grip on me tightening so sharply that I was sure it would leave bruises. I bit my lip to stop a gasp as I looked up at him, surprised to see his jaw clenched, his eyes hard even in the dark. He looked furious, almost like he was barely holding himself back.

"fuck yeah!!! Those chicks would've been fun to mess with," one thug sneered, his voice thick with arrogance.

"Yeah, especially the one the seemed feared," the other one chimed in with a low laugh. "Bet she would've been a handful." I felt Hyden's grip tighten even further, his fingers practically digging into my skin as his jaw clenched, each word they spoke fueling  anger in him.  his eyes were now replaced by a fierce.

"Fuck this, " Hyden hissed, his voice a low, dangerous growl as he made to stand, every muscle in his body coiled to spring forward. Panic spiked through me as the image of him storming toward the thugs flashed in my mind and that seems not the best idea right now those thugs were not joke. and i didn't know what happened to me, suddenly I yanked him back down, my fingers digging into his shirt, as i crashed my lips against his, desperate to ground him to stop him from taking one reckless step.
