"YOU GOT IT?" Ayesha asked as she watched Ellie trying to place the portrait on the wall.

"Yeah... I think so." Ellie mumbled as she took the pencil from her mouth and drew a little line on the wall where she would screw in.

She then slid the pencil behind her ear and turned to Ayesha.

"Can you give me the hammer?" She asked.

Ayesha crouched down and grabbed the hammer before handing it to Ellie. She reached for it before screwing into the wall. She then took the portrait and hung it before taking a few steps back.

The portrait wasn't straight.

Ayesha chuckled a little as Ellie sighed heavily.

"I think it tilts a little on the left..." Ayesha said with an amused smile.

"Well you do it then!" Ellie rolled her eyes as she walked away.

The brunette actually liked it like that. It wasn't perfect but it represented them.

"Wait, we gotta paint the chest of drawers!" Ayesha called out Ellie.

"We'll do it tomorrow, I am tired." Ellie fell onto the sofa.

...

ON THAT SAME night, Ayesha couldn't sleep. It was the middle of the night in August, the heat was a little unbearable and preventing her from peacefully sleeping.

And Ayesha realized quickly she wasn't the only one who wasn't able to sleep when she heard the door to Ellie's room open and the floor cracking. Ayesha frowned as she stood up from her bed and turned on her lamp. She grabbed her hair tie and tied up her hair in a ponytail as she left the room and went downstairs.

And there she found Ellie drinking water from a glass, she seemed somewhere else. She seemed a little frightened.

"Hey, what's up? You aren't sleeping?" Ayesha asked.

Ellie turned around and faced the brunette. Her eyebrows raised as she cleared her throat.

"No, I had a... A nightmare." Ellie said hesitantly.

Ayesha's gaze softened as she slid her hands on the counter.

"You wanna tell me about it?" Ayesha mumbled softly.

Ellie looked up at Ayesha, staring at each other for a short moment. Ellie did not want to talk about it, yet the softness in Ayesha's voice made her feel comfortable and safe. As if in this very moment, she could tell her everything and anything.

Ellie sighed heavily as she looked down.

"I keep seeing him... Every night it's the same nightmare. I just..." Ellie's voice cracked.

"Hey..." Ayesha said softly as she walked closer and slid her hand on her shoulder, stroking it tenderly.

"I am sorry..." Ellie cut her off, regaining her composure as she took a step back, "I don't want to make you feel bad about this."
