Chapter 124: Skill Selection

Watching Gu Xi and Dimmy easily negotiate, the burly quartermaster felt a bit embarrassed.

He coughed heavily, drawing Gu Xi's attention, then cleared his throat and began, "I say, my friend, Dimmy is..."

Before he could finish, Dimmy reached out, grabbed the skeleton archer leader pressed against the wall, and held him like a chick in her hand.

Seeing this, Gu Xi understood Dimmy's intention, "Just add the skeleton archer leader you just recommended, no need for other leaders. The number of undead under me isn't large; too many leaders would be a waste. By the way, besides leaders, what else can I exchange for with these battle merits?"

[Skeleton Archer Leader (Level 0, Summon): Experience (0/500) Attack 3, Defense 1, HP 13, Ammo 5, Skills: Combat Elite, Squad Command (29 members).]

"My friend, this..."

"No way, isn't the price here one merit per leader? You aren't planning to raise the price, are you?"

"No, I wouldn't raise the price." The quartermaster shook his head hurriedly, feeling for the first time that Gu Xi, who was initially easily swayed, wasn't an easy player to deal with.

"I just wanted to say, there are some pretty good leaders here. Wouldn't you like to take a look?"

"No need, two leaders are enough. What else can I exchange for these merits? Heroes?"

"Heroes are out of the question." The quartermaster laughed, "You can exchange for some equipment, but it's not combat equipment. It's all campaign gear that players and leaders can use. These items are all of blue quality, but you know, campaign gear is relatively rare, so the price is higher, one merit per item. Also, skill books. I have some necromancer skill books here, not a full set, but we have some. It's also one merit per book.

If you have your own city, there are blueprints for city buildings. Small plots are one merit each, medium plots are two merits. I don't have any large plots at the moment. If there's something specific you want, three merits, and I'll help you find it."

Abandoning some ideas, the quartermaster stopped dwelling on Dimmy and started introducing items he could sell. This time, to avoid Gu Xi taking advantage, he also mentioned the prices.

At first, Gu Xi was torn between equipment and building blueprints, but then he decisively said, "What skills do you have?"

"Smart."

The quartermaster praised Gu Xi's choice immediately, "Other items are external; only skills are yours. I have class skills, active skills, and passive skills here, but no special skills. You know, those require prerequisites. Some class skills have class requirements. Without the class, some skills can't be chosen. They're all marked. Make sure to read carefully before choosing."

"Okay."

Gu Xi said decisively, "Show me the skill books first. By the way, how are your stocks of basic skill books?"

"Seeing that I'm a death knight on the leadership path should give you an idea."

Gu Xi understood the quartermaster's hint. Clearly, some basic or necessary prerequisite skill books were in high demand here.

However, Gu Xi had his own plans. Even before graduating from the academy, he had considered his future path and skill arrangement. Although he possessed two of the three divine skills, it didn't mean he had to completely alter his route.

Gu Xi's plan was to go from necromancer to lich at level 10, then to lich king at level 20, and ultimately aim for the reaper route.

In his plan, mastering one of the three ultimate skills of the necromancer path was essential. Only then could he have a chance to become a lich king at level 20; otherwise, he could only become a grand lich. At level 30, he would have no second-tier opportunities and would remain a grand lich until death.

The difference was significant.

Though there were few level 20 players in White Lotus City, Gu Xi could plan for the long term. Perhaps it was a player's fantasy.

With dreams in mind, Gu Xi had long considered the skills he needed. His luck hadn't been great, and since starting his job, he hadn't picked any desired skills in four choices.

Now, hearing about skill books, Gu Xi naturally paid attention, hoping to secure at least one of his targets.

"Here are the skill books. You can look at the covers, but once opened, they are automatically read. I don't do returns."

The quartermaster noticed Gu Xi's intention.

"I understand. I'll look first. No witchcraft? No luck skill? Warfare mechanics, yes, this one. Logistics, unfortunately not here. No offense skill. What's this? Armament studies? Economics? Useless to me."

Gu Xi sorted through the skill books one by one, starting with non-class skills. According to his plan, he needed to learn two out of five non-class skills: witchcraft (passive), luck (passive), warfare mechanics (passive), logistics (passive), and offense (passive).

After searching, he only found a warfare mechanics book.

[Warfare Mechanics (Passive): Enhances the power of war machines, increases ballista attack power, defense, and damage; increases catapult damage; enhances healing effect of first aid tents; when an ammo cart is present, grants additional attack power to ranged units.]

For Gu Xi, warfare mechanics was essential. Not to mention its compatibility with the undead route, providing various options like plague tents after acquiring first aid tents, and corpse catapults after choosing catapult route. It even had corresponding skills to boost arrow tower attack power.

This was quite important for Gu Xi. His death city could deploy a summoning tower on the battlefield at level 5 and walls and moats at level 9, with the walls including arrow towers.

Though Gu Xi's previous research wasn't detailed enough to understand the changes when combining warfare mechanics with undead professions, he knew warfare mechanics was useful, which was enough.
