Chapter 30: Activating Buildings and City Patrols

"The number of contracted undead has finally increased by one."

Seeing the current situation, Gu Xi's thoughts started to turn.

Luna's presence had brought him a place like Aridoville, but Luna's lack of combat strength was also very apparent.

Why not take this opportunity to visit the cemetery in Victoria City again and see if there are any suitable undead to contract?

While Gu Xi was thinking about this, the battle at the end of the sewer had concluded.

Just like before, when the last rat was killed, the black mist covering the end of the sewer turned into a white, transparent light curtain.

When both ends of the sewer were cleared, Gu Xi suddenly noticed that the pipes on both sides of the sewer began to pour water into the sewer, indicating that the activation task for the well was complete.

Gu Xi had no intention of proceeding further for now.

He called out to Luna.

"Luna, let's go and activate the candle factory."

Luna quickly came to Gu Xi's side, and then the skeleton combat team followed.

When Gu Xi and his team climbed up from the well, they could see that the sewer below was already filled with knee-deep water.

After coming out of the well, Gu Xi handed the linen bag to Luna.

"Luna, take a look at this."

When Luna saw the items inside the linen bag, her eyes lit up. She immediately picked up the hearthstone, as this item was most familiar to Luna, who was originally an elf.

"Master, this is good news. We've been planning to establish an anchor point in Victoria City, haven't we?

This is a great opportunity. If we can have a residential building in Victoria City, I can set up a fireplace using this hearthstone, and then we can travel between the council hall and the residential building through the fireplace."

"Alright, let's move quickly. I'll go and activate the candle factory first, while you go and start building the city gate. We'll split up to make things faster."

Luna had no objections and quickly flew towards the council hall upon receiving Gu Xi's orders.

Gu Xi, on the other hand, headed towards the candle factory with his skeleton soldiers.

The candle factory still looked the same as before, with no changes. When Gu Xi arrived, he decisively poured out the eerie rat meat and threw it all into the boiling pot.

As the eerie rat meat was thrown in, Gu Xi noticed that the candle factory started to change.

The color of the candle factory turned white, the animal hide hanging at the door turned into rat skin, and the contents of the boiling pot also turned white.

Most importantly, Gu Xi noticed a wooden box appearing in the corner of the candle factory.

Gu Xi went forward and opened the box to find 30 white candles, each the thickness of a finger.

[White Candle (White): Special item for the undead, generates a certain amount of negative energy, replenishing the life force of the undead (particularly effective for ghosts and spirits).]

As an undead mage, Gu Xi could immediately feel the dense negative energy within the white candle as soon as he picked it up.

Once the candle is lit, it will quickly form a negative energy field, and all undead illuminated by the candlelight will receive support from the negative energy.

To the undead, these candles are akin to proper food, used to replenish strength and life force.

It seems that there is no building in the city chosen without reason.

At this moment, Gu Xi heard a ding in his ears.

[City gate construction started, total investment of 300 negative energy points, 3 units of wood, 3 units of stone, to be completed in 4 hours.]

Hearing this, Gu Xi felt more at ease. With three buildings already activated and the city gate under construction, Gu Xi could relax a little.

With some time to spare, Gu Xi thought it would be a good idea to explore the city area with his subordinates to see what the rooms contained.

After all, not opening boxes in the rooms would be unworthy of Gu Xi's player status.

So Gu Xi immediately started searching the nearby rooms with his skeleton soldiers.

Gu Xi discovered that King James I had truly been wealthy.

To deceive people, he had gone to great lengths.

Everything in the rooms was arranged according to their original settings.

Apart from the absence of people and corpses, everything else had been arranged.

In the area where Gu Xi was, every building had various pieces of furniture.

The houses near the main street had their furniture dragged out by Gu Xi's combat team to be used as roadblocks.

However, items that couldn't be used as roadblocks remained inside the houses.

Gu Xi saw many old-fashioned clothes here, as well as wooden horses made for children.

In houses far from the main street, there were even more items. Gu Xi found bows, arrows, swords, spears, and even chicken coops and dog houses outside.

After circling the area with his subordinates, Gu Xi did not move all the items out. He just took stock of the current state of the houses.

For now, without considering the issue of medium and large buildings, there were 362 buildings used as background structures.

More than half of these were two-story buildings, with 32 three-story buildings and three four-story apartment buildings.

Apart from these 300-plus buildings, there were also some old and dilapidated houses, which were used as empty spaces for constructing other buildings.

In the 300-plus buildings, the one-story houses were located near the well.

From the layout of the houses, Gu Xi could tell that the area he occupied belonged to the outskirts of Aridoville.

His city area had five passages leading outwards, three of which led to different districts of Aridoville.

Each of these three passages had corresponding checkpoints.

Gu Xi patrolled these with his skeleton soldiers.

One passage required crossing a bridge over a river to enter the upper district of Aridoville.

Another passage was blocked by a city gate.

Without taking down the bridge and the city gate, Gu Xi couldn't hope to enter these two areas.

The only relatively simple checkpoint was located in the southwest corner of the city.

This passage led to another street in the lower district, which had a canal dock and a freight walkway, belonging to the industrial area of Aridoville.

The only checkpoint on this route was a six-story tower, occupying a small area, resembling a barracks. It shouldn't be too difficult to capture it.

Gu Xi planned to capture this area once he had enough troops, to expand his territory a bit.
