Chapter 36: The Agreement

“This can actually work.”

The waiter considered it seriously. If Gu Xi was indeed willing to say that this location was part of the Tamworth District, many people would be willing to help him complete this transaction.

After all, the issue with this ruin had been entangled for many years, but no one could persuade the other.

If the owner of this ruin successfully managed to claim that this place belonged to the Camden District, every nearby homeowner would demand the same.

But if it wasn’t, this ruin was at the very end of Greenwich Street, and Greenwich Street needed an end.

So, this matter had always been a point of contention, and the waiter knew this well.

If Gu Xi could exchange for this ruin, it would solve a major problem between the Tamworth and Camden districts. There shouldn’t be any opposition to this matter.

“If you really want this place, I can help you exchange it. Besides not belonging to the Camden District, this area has no other disadvantages.

Look, other houses require a few steps to get to Camden. But from here, you don’t need to take a single step; you’re already in Camden.

If it weren’t for some people’s personal ambitions, this place would have been sold long ago.

If I could decide, I would have bought it and moved the boundary to the Camden District. This would definitely work.”

“Okay, I can write an authorization letter right now.”

Gu Xi decisively said, thinking it would be foolish not to take such a prime spot and instead look for useless places.

The waiter was delighted to hear this. “Sign an authorization agreement as well, entrusting our Destiny Compass Guild to handle this matter. Just three days, and the place will be yours.”

Gu Xi nodded. Three days was not long, and he had other matters in Victoria City. These three days would allow him to handle those.

After three days, this ruin should be his. Then, he could set the anchor point here, exit the game, and report his profession.

While Gu Xi was thinking about this, the waiter had already written two authorization letters and an agreement.

Gu Xi carefully checked them, confirming they were as he had requested, without any incomprehensible symbols.

Satisfied, he signed the agreement and handed over the land purchase certificate.

The waiter glanced at it, nodding affirmatively.

“Yes, this is from the first batch of land purchase certificates. Though many years have passed, its legal effect remains. Rest assured, I will handle everything within three days.”

“Great.” Gu Xi smiled happily, about to mention where he would stay for the next three days, but found himself unable to state his plans.

Noticing Gu Xi’s hesitation, the waiter smiled, “Don’t worry, there’s no one we can’t find in Victoria City. I will come to you in three days.”

Seeing the waiter’s confident expression, Gu Xi nodded.

After the waiter left, Gu Xi glanced back at Greenwich Street, then turned and headed in another direction.

He planned to find a place to stay, as it was getting dark. Last time, he wandered into Victoria Cemetery at night and got ambushed.

He didn’t want to be captured again.

Gu Xi had no desire to explore Victoria City at night anymore.

He’d rather find an empty tavern or hotel to enjoy the view than risk his life.

As for his plans, they could wait until tomorrow.

The bodies had already been moved for quite some time; a few more days wouldn’t matter.

Leaving Northumberland Avenue, Gu Xi found himself near the Isis River again.

However, this time, he was on the other side of the river, different from where he had fallen in earlier.

Here, he could clearly see the Victoria Bridge over the Isis River.

Gu Xi intended to find a riverside tavern to stay in, preferably one with a bed. If not, he’d at least enjoy some food and drink to nourish himself.

He had been starving for too long, not even feeling his stomach move anymore.

After returning, it would take months to regain the lost weight.

But as Gu Xi looked up for a tavern, he noticed a human head hanging under Victoria Bridge.

Who knew how long it had been there or how it had been treated, but the entire head was blackened, though its features and angry expression were still clear.

Seeing this, Gu Xi couldn’t help but sigh. Who was this person, punished under the bridge by the British? He must have done many things against them.

Looking in the direction of the hanging head, Gu Xi spotted a decent-looking tavern.

The tavern’s entrance was right under the glaring gaze of the head hanging from the bridge.

While most might find this unsettling, some wouldn’t mind.

So, the tavern’s business was surprisingly good. It was evening, and many were already drinking outside.

Gu Xi even noticed some patrons secretly toasting the head under the bridge.

This made Gu Xi realize the tavern had strong backing.

In Victoria City’s environment, this meant safety.

Gu Xi was tired of Victoria City’s thieves, spies, and other night prowlers.

He didn’t want more trouble in his last few days.

So, he confidently walked towards the tavern, pushing open the door, and flicked a shilling onto the bar.

“I need a place for the night. Got anything?”

“A third-class room is a shilling per night. Add ninepence for breakfast, and another shilling gets you a pretty girl who will sneak into your room at midnight and leave by dawn.”

“Just a quiet room will do.”

Glancing at the waitresses bustling around, Gu Xi decisively made his choice.

“Alright, your room is on the second floor, third door after you go up.”

The bartender handed him a key without further persuasion.

Taking the key, Gu Xi asked, “Got any wine and jerky? If so, bring some up. I’ll settle the bill later.”

“Sure, I’ll have it sent up shortly.”

The bartender glanced around, then winked at Gu Xi with understanding.
