The members of Enhypen had always known that fame came with its share of challenges. From rigorous schedules to the pressure of constantly being in the public eye, they had grown accustomed to handling the ups and downs of their careers. But sometimes, the harshness of the spotlight could cut deeper than they expected.
Jay had always been confident and sure of himself, often leading the group with his sharp intellect and easygoing nature. But as their popularity grew, so did the scrutiny. While the praise from ENGENEs poured in, so did the criticisms. And lately, it seemed that the negative voices were growing louder.
The first few comments didn't bother him much. After all, he knew that not everyone would have kind things to say. But as time went on, the remarks became more personal, more cutting. They focused on his appearance—something he had never been particularly insecure about until now.
"Jay's gaining weight."
"He should watch what he eats."
"He's not as fit as the others."The words, relentless and unforgiving, echoed in his mind. Despite his best efforts to brush them off, they started to sink in. He would catch glimpses of himself in the mirror, scrutinizing his reflection, wondering if there was any truth to the cruel comments. Was he really getting out of shape? Was he the weak link in the group?
The tipping point came during a livestream when a particularly vicious comment caught his eye. It read: "Jay looks fat compared to the others. Maybe he should skip a few meals." The words hit him like a punch to the gut. The smile on his face faltered, and although he quickly recovered, something inside him broke.
From that day on, Jay became hyper-aware of everything he ate. What started as an attempt to be more mindful of his diet soon spiraled into something far more dangerous. He began skipping meals, telling himself it was just temporary, just until he shed a few pounds. But as the days turned into weeks, his eating habits became increasingly erratic.
The other members noticed the change in Jay. He had always been one of the more energetic and outgoing members, but lately, he seemed more withdrawn, more tired. At first, they chalked it up to the demands of their schedule, but soon it became clear that something else was going on.
Heeseung, ever observant, was the first to bring it up. During a break between rehearsals, he pulled Jay aside.
"Jay, are you okay? You’ve seemed a bit off lately," Heeseung asked, his voice full of concern.
Jay forced a smile. "Yeah, I’m fine. Just a little tired, that’s all."
But Heeseung wasn’t convinced. He had noticed how Jay picked at his food during meals, how he barely ate anything at all. The normally hearty eater had become unusually selective, often pushing his plate away after just a few bites.
"Are you sure?" Heeseung pressed gently. "You’ve barely been eating, and we’re all worried about you."
Jay hesitated, his resolve wavering. He didn’t want to worry his friends, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that he needed to do something about his appearance. He felt like he was carrying the weight of everyone’s expectations, and if that meant sacrificing a few meals, then so be it.
"I’m fine, really," Jay insisted. "I’m just trying to be healthier, you know? Watch what I eat."
Heeseung frowned but didn’t push further. He knew Jay well enough to recognize when he wasn’t ready to talk. But the conversation left him uneasy, and he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was seriously wrong.
As the days went on, the other members began to notice Jay’s worsening condition. His face grew paler, his energy levels plummeted, and he seemed more irritable than usual. During dance practices, he struggled to keep up, often losing his balance or running out of breath far too quickly.
It all came to a head one day during a particularly intense rehearsal. The group was preparing for a major performance, and the choreography was more demanding than ever. Jay, pushing himself to his limits, suddenly felt the room spin. His vision blurred, and before he could steady himself, his knees buckled, and he collapsed to the floor.
The room fell silent as the members rushed to his side, panic etched on their faces.
"Jay! Are you okay?" Sunghoon shouted, kneeling beside him.
Jay tried to get up, but his body felt like it weighed a ton. His head throbbed, and his stomach churned from the lack of food. Heeseung quickly called for their manager, who helped carry Jay to a nearby couch. The others hovered around him, their worry evident.
"Jay, when was the last time you ate?" Jungwon asked, his voice a mixture of concern and frustration.
Jay hesitated, unable to answer. The truth was, he couldn’t remember. The days had blurred together, and his obsession with losing weight had taken over every aspect of his life. The realization hit him like a ton of bricks. He had been so focused on the negative comments that he hadn’t noticed how much damage he was doing to himself.
Their manager arrived with a doctor, who quickly assessed Jay’s condition. The diagnosis was clear—he was severely undernourished and dehydrated. He needed rest, proper nutrition, and above all, support from his friends.
After the doctor left, the room was filled with a heavy silence. The members sat around Jay, their faces a mix of concern and sadness.
"Jay, why didn’t you tell us?" Sunoo asked softly, his eyes brimming with tears.
Jay looked down, ashamed. "I didn’t want to worry you guys. I just... I thought I needed to lose weight. People were saying I was getting fat, and I didn’t want to let anyone down."
Heeseung shook his head. "Jay, you’re perfect the way you are. Those comments don’t matter. What matters is your health. We care about you, not what some strangers online say."
Jungwon added, "You don’t have to go through this alone. We’re a team, remember? We look out for each other."
The other members nodded in agreement, each offering words of encouragement and support. They reminded Jay that he wasn’t alone, that they were all in this together.
From that day on, the members made a concerted effort to help Jay recover. They monitored his meals, ensuring he was eating properly, and offered him emotional support whenever he needed it. They also worked with their manager to limit their exposure to harmful comments online, reminding each other to focus on the positive and ignore the negativity.
It wasn’t an easy journey, but with the support of his friends, Jay slowly began to regain his strength. He realized that his worth wasn’t defined by his appearance or the opinions of others, but by the love and support of those around him.
In the end, the experience brought the group closer together, reinforcing their bond and reminding them that they were more than just idols—they were family. And no matter what challenges they faced, they knew they could overcome them as long as they had each other.
