Author's note: So in this ff, Jungwon's the Maknae of Enhypen because . . . why not? And he can also play the guitar. He basically is an added member, so he joined the group after their debut.

Yang Jungwon stood at the edge of his new reality, thrust into the spotlight as the newest member of Enhypen after their debut. He hadn’t participated in I-Land, so the others knew nothing about him, his past, or his hidden talents. In their eyes, he was just another trainee, one more name on the roster. What they didn’t know was that he was also the youngest member of the group, a title that had been wrongly bestowed upon Ni-ki. The older members, who carried the weight of their journey through I-Land, had a certain camaraderie that Jungwon felt he could never break into.

The first few weeks in the dorm were a whirlwind of schedules and expectations. Jungwon tried his best to fit in, throwing himself into practice and learning from the older members. He was a talented dancer, quick to pick up choreography, but his heart held a secret talent that he had yet to share with anyone: he could play the guitar beautifully and sing with a voice that was unique and captivating. However, he only played for himself, the soothing melodies becoming his escape from the relentless pressure of being a new member.

Only one member had stumbled upon this hidden talent: Jay. One quiet evening, while everyone else was occupied with their own activities, Jay had wandered down the hallway and heard soft strumming coming from Jungwon’s room. Curious, he crept closer and listened as Jungwon sang along, his voice gentle yet filled with emotion.

“Wow,” Jay whispered to himself, taken aback by the beauty of the sound. He knocked lightly on the door, and Jungwon’s heart raced.

“Go away!” Jungwon called out, panic lacing his voice.

“Come on, I heard you! You’re really good!” Jay insisted, pushing the door open without waiting for a response. Jungwon quickly set the guitar down, hiding it behind his bed.

“I don’t want anyone to know,” Jungwon confessed, his voice barely above a whisper.

“Why not? You should share it with us!” Jay’s enthusiasm was contagious, but Jungwon shook his head.

“Because… I’m not good enough. I’m just here to dance,” he replied, trying to dismiss Jay’s praise. “And I don’t want anyone to think I’m weak.”

As the days turned into weeks, the other members’ attitudes towards Jungwon remained indifferent at best and harsh at worst. They didn’t shy away from making snide remarks, especially Sunghoon, who seemed to take pleasure in calling Jungwon out during practices. “Come on, Jungwon! Are you even trying?” he would scoff, making Jungwon’s heart sink each time.

Despite their camaraderie, the other members were unaware of Jungwon’s true struggles. They thought he was merely shy, but he was battling his own demons, keeping the fact that he was the youngest a tightly guarded secret. In their eyes, he was just another member who needed to step up, much like Ni-ki, who they assumed was the maknae.

Jungwon also dealt with something more personal: he was asthmatic. He had learned to manage it alone, avoiding situations where he might need to explain himself. The thought of revealing this secret terrified him, for he feared it would solidify the perception that he was weak or incapable. Every time the tightness in his chest returned during practice, he would excuse himself, hiding away until he could breathe normally again.

One fateful day, as Jungwon practiced a particularly demanding routine alone in the studio, he pushed himself too hard. The choreography was intricate, and he wanted to impress his teammates. However, as he attempted a challenging spin, his foot slipped on the slick floor. He fell awkwardly, hearing a sickening crack echo through the empty studio. Pain shot through his ankle, and he gasped, struggling to catch his breath as his body protested against the movement.
