CHAPTER 9: Witness or Accomplice?

Ishamar's POV

"The missing 24 years old woman and the daughter of Senator Bautista, Peggy Bautista, is now found!"

Nakatingin lang ako sa telebisyon at pinapanood ang balita patungkol sa pagkahanap kay Peggy. Well, after they carried Peggy's body, I didn't heard a thing about her. If she's now fine, nor to what happened on Maksim, Heze's cousin who was the kidnaper.

"The police don't want to expose some information about on how she was found and who brought her up. But it is said that a Russian man was the one behind her disappearance and he was already detained in the police station."

"Why haven't you still changed your clothes?"

Nilingon ko ang nagsalita at nakita si Heze. Nakapagpalit na ito. Well, ngayon ang pagpunta namin sa police station para magbigay ng statement. That was just a simple questioning since kami ang nakatira rito, sa bahay kung saan huling pumunta si Peggy, at parehong lugar kung saan siya natagpuan.

"You also look troubled. Did something bad happened? Does your wound hurts?" tanong pa nito hanggang sa makaharap na siya sa akin.

Napasinghap naman ako at sinabunutan ang aking buhok. "It's just..." Huminga ako ng malalim at tinignan ito. "Will you listen to me?"

Tumango naman ito kaya umayos ako sa aking pagkakaupo at sinimulang sinabi rito ang nalalaman ko. Mula sa kalabog na nagmumula sa basement, sa boses na humihingi ng tulong, at sa dugo na nakita ko sa sahig. Bukod pa roon ay inamin ko na rin na alam ko ang patungkol kay Peggy, at sa pananahimik ko dahil sa takot.

"Hmm. This is bad," bulalas ni Heze. "If they'll got the statement from Peggy that you were involved, you might end up as the accomplice of Maksim," anito na mas lalo ko lang ikinakaba. Ito ang pinoproblema ko kanina pa.

"Pero hindi ko naman siya sinaktan. Pinakain ko naman siya para magkaroon ng lakas."

"That won't buy the justice," saad ni Heze kaya naman napalunok ako sa aking laway. "You knew she was there but you kept your silence. You could call the police, no, you should've saved her even if it'll cost your life. Those are what a normal person do, yet you remained silent up until now."

A normal person would do.

Napayuko na lang ako at ngumiwi. Then I'm really in a trouble. Hindi naman nagtagal ay narinig ko ang pagtawa ni Heze kaya naman agad akong nag-angat ng mukha para tignan siya.

"You're really my nephew," anito at nginitian ako. "We don't belong to this world. That only means we don't do what normal people do. You're more interesting than I expected."

"This isn't a joke!" singhal ko pero panay pa rin ang pagtawa niya. "Anyways, I really thought you were the one who detained Peggy," mahina kong sambit na naging dahilan upang natigil na sa pagtawa si Heze.

"Me? Why did you thought so?"

"Why? Well, we were the only person living in this place."

"Yeah? But did you consider my situation now? I'm still in my wheelchair."

Hindi na ako muling nakipagtalo. Alam ko, lahat ay pagkakamali ko. Kung hindi ko lang pinaghinalaan si Heze ay baka matagal nang nakalabas si Peggy at hindi sana mas malala ang kalagayan niya ngayon. In the end, it was all my fault.

"Well, back to the problem. Since Peggy was still unconscious, they haven't still manage to get her statement so for now you're still safe but who knows when will she wake up," hayag ni Heze. "In this situation, you just need to depend on your luck."

Namutla na lang ako sa aking kinauupuan. Kung ganu'n ay wala na akong dapat asahan. I'm not a lucky person at all. Well, if I am, I shouldn't be in this kind of situation now.
