I reflected on what I had said to him about his mate, I would never do something like that, I think McArter knew deep down that I wouldn’t do the things that I said, I could hear the quad bikes in the distance, “everyone, go stand at the back wall, not you two, you two understand that you won’t be leaving this cabin alive, you will die for what you have done to me” I could see that they were scared but I didn’t care, they nodded, knowing there fate, “you to McArter, go and stand with your pack, you need to live to bring that pup into this world, it needs a father, make sure you bring it up right, teach it how to properly treat others” “but” "JUST DO IT” I shouted as I pointed the gun at him.

It felt like hours past as I waited the quad bikes to get closer, “River? River?” I could hear Huxley shout, relief flooded my body, it felt like I could relax a little, knowing that Huxley is getting closer, he was here to save me, all I wanted to do was cry in his arm, him holding me tight, letting all my worries disappear with his warmth, “RIVER” Huxley shouted as he ran through the door, when he saw me, all beaten and bloody, I could see that he was full of rage, “who the fuck did this to you?” he said as he scooped me up into his arms, I was in pain but all I wanted was to bring his arms.

“He did” I said pointing to the dead body on the floor “and they did” I then pointed to the other two Lycan’s that were standing apart from the others, “they killed our pup” I cried, “River, are you with pup?” I couldn’t answer him, I had lost the only thing he wanted, “Pasha, take River back the pack house” “will do, come on River, lest go” Pasha took me from Huxley, he told me to get on his back, as we were leaving I said “Pasha, wait, Huxley, just then two, they were the ones that hurt me, the others had nothing to do with it, please don’t hurt them” “fine” Huxley said, not taking his eye of then two.

My whole body was in pain, I was uncontrollably crying again, I held onto Pasha tightly, I could hear the screams of the two Lycan’s echo around the farm, I didn’t want to hear them but I also did, “River, did I hear you right, are you with pup?” “I don’t think so, not anymore, they kept kicking and stomping on my stomach, knowing that I was with pup, how can a little pup take such a beating like that? I'm so ashamed, I should have protected it better” “do not be ashamed, you did what you could, come on, let’s get you back to the pack house, I think you will need to go to the hospital, to be checked out, there is a lot of blood”.

I didn’t go straight to the hospital, I waited for Huxley to return, we went to Doctor Shelley’s, she took me straight in “Doctor Shelley, River is with pup, please help her” “what happened? Did you do this to her?” “No, he didn’t, it’s a long story, I will tell you but please check on our pup” I please” I pleaded, “fine, this way”.

I laid on the bed, my body hurt so much, she pressed the scanner on my stomach, I cried out in pain, “what are you doing to her?” “Sorry River, but I need to do it like this, your body is swelling up” “just do it” I said through gritted teeth.

The screen popped up, but there was nothing there, my heart was breaking the more Doctor Shelley went over and over with the scanner, not finding anything, “the pup is gone, isn’t it?” I whispered, “I'm sorry, I can’t find anything, I'm really sorry, wait” she pressed harder, making me cry out, “AHHHH” “sorry, there it is, right there, it was hiding, River, Huxley, look right there, can you see that little thing right there, see that little flutter, that’s its heart beat, I would say that you are about three weeks, Lycan’s pregnancy is a lot shorter than a humans, now, tell me what happened?”
I told her and Huxley what happened while she drove us to the hospital, she told me that I was lucky that the pup survived.

At the hospital, they told me that my left arm was fractured in two places, that’s the arm that I had covering my stomach, my nose was broken, I had five broken ribs and a hairline fracture on my skull, on the plus side, they did another scan with a better scanner and they confirmed that the pup was totally fine.

I was laying in the hospital bed, cuddled up next to Huxley, they had told Huxley to leave but I told them that if he leaves, so do I, needless to say, they let him stay with me.

“River, why didn’t you tell me that you had come off birth control?” “I wanted to surprise you with the news on your birthday, happy early birthday” “so you are ready for a pup?” “not really, but when I have Reed and Harvi, I know deep down I can do it and do it well, also when I see how happy you are with the pups when you think no one is looking or how sad you look when you saw Atlas’s pregnant belly” “it’s the best birthday present ever”.
