In the morning, River didn’t want to wake up, it was closet to 10am before she woke up, her body was weak from last night, Maxine didn’t like me yesterday, she is definitely not going to like me today, “morning my love, have you made a decision on if you want to go back to your Nan’s house or just go home?” “I don’t know, I don’t want to but I also want to, I want to know why she said that to me, she knows I haven’t been with anyone other than you, why would she call me a whore?” “Like I said, it’s your choice” “we will go to her house, I want an apology from her”.

We waited for the call from Alpha Leo for us to go back to Maxien’s house, this time, River and Atlas sat on the sofa as Pasha and I stood next to them, just like Alpha Leo did with Maxine.

No one spoke, no one want to start the convocation that need to be had, “why did you call me a whore?” River said in a low voice, her head bowed, letting her hair fall pasted her face so no one could see her tears, Maxine didn’t answer, “you Granddaughter asked you a question, have the decency to answer her” Maxine shot me a death stare, “wow, even True Alpha’s get one of those, I thought it was just for me” Pasha laughed, it was my turn to stare at him, “sorry”.

There was another silence, “this isn’t getting us anywhere, we are leaving, come on River, let’s go” she stood up crying as was Atlas “River, you don’t have to listen to him, how about you come home, back to this pack?” “Maxine, we spoke about this” “what is your problem with me? Why do you hate me so much? You don’t even know me” Maxine just ignored me, “River please come here, away from that thing” “that thing? His name is True Alpha Huxley, he is my mate that I've chosen to be with” “you can reject him, we will find you a better Lycan” “there is no one better then Huxley” “that’s it, I've had it, River chose me with her own free will, I would never except her rejection” “he is dangerous, I need to keep you safe” “and I can’t do that?” “NO, YOU CAN’T” she shouted at me, finally looking at me, you could see the hatred in her eyes as they looked at me, “I am a True Alpha, I can protect my mate and my whole pack” “you are a feral, you kind are dangerous, all you feral’s want is to hurt Lycan for fun” “Huxley isn’t like that, yeah, he needs help with somethings that he’s forgotten but he is kind” River said in my defence, “but he is feral, it was a feral pack that killed your parents, they are all dangerous, he will eventually kill you to” “what? You never told us that it was a feral pack, you just said it was a pack that wanted our land” she looked back and forth between Maxine and Alpha Leo, Pasha look as confused as River.

“Maxine is right, it was a feral pack that attacked us, we didn’t want to tell you, we didn’t want to scare you” “what difference does it make now? They are all still dead, normal or feral, all Lycan’s are dangerous, don’t box him in with those like that without knowing his story, Huxley is right, come on River, Atlas, lets go home, you know I was really excited to talk to you about the farm that we are starting up to help feed us and the pack that’s closets to us as they are struggling, would a feral do that? You know what? Keep it, I don’t care, come on, lets go” pasha shocked me a little with his outburst.

They didn’t say anything as we were leaving, I stopped at the door, I turned back to see Maxine, crying in Alpha Leo’s arms “this is your last chance to apologise, once I step out this door, you will never hear from River ever again and this pick can fucking die” she made no effort to move, I turned and went to step out, “wait” I turned to see Maxine kneeling on the floor.

“River, come here, I think you Nan has something to say to you” River stepped back into the house, standing next to me, taking my hand, I pulled it up and kissed it, “you asked me to wait, what do you want?” Maxine didn’t say anything at first, that a low voice said “River, please stay” “I will not reject my mate” “I think she means, don’t leave just yet, stay a little longer” Alpha Leo said, he did look genuinely upset at the situation, “River, would you like to stay to hear her apology?” she looked up at me, tears in her eyes and nodded, “ok, go ahead”.

I didn’t let Pasha and Atlas back in the house, they stood in the doorway with me as River stood in front of her kneeling Grandmother, Alpha Leo helped Maxine to her feet, there was a brief silence before Maxine broke it “River, please listen to me” “if you’re going to tell me to reject the mate that I have chosen and not apologising for calling me a whore for having sex with Huxley, the only Lycan I've ever been with, he is the only one that I've had sex with, you have always drilled it into me that I shouldn’t lose my virginity to anyone but my mate, I did as you told me to” “I know but not to a feral, I'm just looking out for you” “what? By making me come back to this dead pack? Who will you get to mate with me? It won’t be the True Alpha as you already have that covered” Maxine slapped River across the face, “you can shove the apology where the sun doesn’t shine, I have no family anymore” River walked back to me, fighting back the tears, she quickly turned back to them and said “Huxley knotted in me last night, I might be with pup, a great grand pup that you will never meet, Huxley, please take me home” “as you wish”.

The plan was for me to drive us back but River wanted me to sit in the back with her, she had cried herself to sleep, she has cried so much in the last few days, it breaks my heart to see, “hey Pasha, is it true that the pack wanted River to mate with Alpha Leo?” “Yeah, it was put to a vote to, it was a split decision, but when Alpha Leo found out about it, he shut it down calling it ridiculous” “was River ok with that? Being voted to mated with him?” “she didn’t know, Petra and I left he pack when we turned 19, I went back once a month to visit her, I overheard a convocation and I told River and Maxine about it, they wasn’t happy, River was only 15 and had her first heat the month before”.

I was in shock, “the pack wanted a 15-year-old to mate with the True Alpha who is got to be in his 60s, that’s crazy, I remember River talking to Titan about her old pack but I don’t remember her saying that she was 15, being voted to be mated with him, its just wrong, when I weas younger there were talks saying that 18 might be too young to be mated with” “back in Russia, once you have had your first heat or rut, you are classed as an adult and can be mated with, my parents didn’t agree with it, that’s why we moved here when we were only young”, I was in disbelief, how different pack’s thought about mating and when to mate, 15 to a 60 year old, what were they thinking of?

We got back to the pack house, River didn’t want to see anyone, she just wanted to go to bed, I tried to get her to eat something but she didn’t want it either so I let her stay in bed until she was ready to come down.
