He rose slowly, thinking about how he was going to handle the situation. He needed a plan and for it to be successful he needed stiles. But that meant leaving Liam in the house on his own with whoever this other girl was.
Meanwhile you were overjoyed. After having no one listen or see you for numerous weeks, it was good to be acknowledged again. However, you knew it was going to be a problem convincing Liam, but now you had a chance against her. Maybe you could be set free...
You stuck close to Scott, causing the hair on his arms to stand up. He walked forward, his posture changing, like he knew you were next to him. He glanced to the side every now and then, looking through you.
"We need to talk" he stated to Liam. Liam stopped what he was doing, gesturing for Scott to carry on. He wanted to give Scott his attention, especially as the alpha was anxiously rubbing his arm.
"This is going to be hard to hear, but y/n isn't y/n." he said, getting it out in the open. He knew trying to tell Liam another way wouldn't be effective, he wouldn't truly understand what he meant.
"What are you talking about Scott? Of course she is!" he seemed offended, turning around to continue what he was doing before. Of course he was offended, you were the love of his life and he was extremely loyal and protective of you.
"I'm telling the truth Liam... she's different. Look at her, I mean really look." Liam hesitated, staring into space. You thought he was about to turn around and agree with Scott.
"It's her" he said almost coldly. You knew his love was blinding him.
"The spirit in your house is y/n. the girl that's living here has trapped her somehow!" he exclaimed, not knowing how to get through to him. He wasn't sure if this was the actual truth, but it seemed like a good explanation.
After trying multiple times, he decided to leave. His beta had to realise at some point, and now it was brought to his attention it should be easier. Scott promised he'd help you, talking to the air, hoping you were listening. Then he left.
She came in a while later. You had no idea what she did when she was gone, but it was clearly bad. He spent hours in unknown locations, never letting you go with her. She joined Liam on the sofa, cuddling next to him. He sniffed the air and observed her, rubbing his hands together nervously once he finished. Maybe he knew? He didn't say anything else, making you think he would never realise.
"Are you okay?" she asked. He nodded, wondering if he was just being ridiculous in considering Scott's words.
"Well answer me?" he voice sounded harsh, making Liam uncomfortable. She knew something was wrong and it was making her uneasy.
"Yes I'm good. Great." He replied, keeping his heart rate steady. He didn't do it much, so he hoped he succeeded.
"Perfect" she beamed at him. Clearly he had covered it up well, if she could hear his heart beat.
"Uh, do you remember our first kiss?" the question didn't reveal his suspicions about her and would prove to him whether Scott was right or wrong. So he saw no harm in asking her.
"Yes. Of course I do, why?"
"I was just wondering if you would tell the story again."
"Why?" she questioned defensively, her eyes casually drifting over to you and narrowing. You held your hands up, gesturing that you didn't know what he was doing and had nothing to do with it
"I like the story."
"Have you forgotten it?"
"n-no, I just...uh....like the way you tell it."
"Some other time Ollie."
"What?" he asked, his ears picking up her mistake.
"I said some other time Liam, are you going deaf?" she joked, her voice wavering slightly.
He stood up, leaving the room. In a rush He headed straight for the study. For some reason he thought that you mainly existed in that room. He needed to talk to you, to apologise for his naivety.
He sat on the chair you had sat in before and didn't talk for a few minutes, as he was trying to understand how long this had been going on.
"Is it really you y/n?" knock
"Have you been there for a while?" knock.
"Since you came back from your homeland?" knock, knock.
"Is this something to do with how you got back to me?" knock. He put his head in his hands, fighting back the tears. He didn't know what you were suffering but he thought it was his fault.
"I love you y/n. I'll get her out of here. I'll save you." he whispered. You wanted to say it back, but it was pointless. He wouldn't hear you and it would cause more heartache.
"So you figured it out." she said, revealing herself from behind the doorway. You wondered how long she had been there and how neither of you noticed. She was no longer looking like you, but like the elf you had met in the cave.
"Poor little Liam. You could've been mine. But then you had to go and ruin it." She directed the last sentence to you, her eyes flashing a grey colour. You had never seen her eyes, they were the colour you see before a storm. One that brings rain and thunder and chaos.
"You can see her... all this time you could see her." He muttered, clenching his fists. "You took her place. Tricked me. You kept us apart." His voice grew louder and louder until he growled out the words.
"But you didn't know... you were still happy with me." She teased, looking down at her nails in an arrogant manner.
"It wasn't the same, and it was only because you pretended to be her."
"If it wasn't the same then why did you stay?"
"Because I love her. You can't make me feel bad, when you were the one who manipulated me."
"What are you going to do about it?" she laughed, although at the sight of his teeth she became nervous.
"Have you ever seen a transformed werewolf?" he asked, slowly turning. She shook her head, her mouth open. Having lived most of her life in your homeland, she hadn't come across one before. She only read about the ghastly things they did in books.
"I'm not afraid of you." She spat.
"I would be." Said another voice. In the doorway stood Scott, his claws and teeth bared as well.
They both took a step forward, enclosing her into the study with no way out. But she had a way. She always had a way. A mirror appeared to her right, on the wall like it had been there all along. She bounded towards it. When she made contact with the glass a bright, blinding light, just like the one in the chasm, engulfed your vision. However in amongst the increasing brightness, you could see Liam's hand reach out, touching the elf's shoulder.
He was sucked through the mirror too.
