He felt dizzy. His head hit the cave wall hard, but he would heal. He could see you two fighting, the knife getting dangerously close to you. That's when time seemed to stop. The blade was no longer visible. It was planted in your leg, making you cry out. You fell to the floor and so did he. He looked down but there was nothing there, no mark. But he felt the knife in his leg as if it was real.
He saw the pain flash across your face and that was enough motivation he needed. He got off the floor and ran forward, his shoulder making contact with the elf, sending both himself and her flying over the edge of the chasm.
"Liam!!!" you shouted, seeing them fall over the edge. You pulled the knife out of your leg and gripped it in your hands. Then you advanced to the rope ignoring the pain of your leg and the blood that had stained your clothes. You held on and slid down, the rope burning your hands but you wanted to reach the bottom as soon as possible. When you did you were pulled to the floor as well. The elf looked over at you from her position on the chasm ground. You could see she was still trying to fight, but it was hard, the life and power was slowly draining out of her.
"I could use you. Your youth. I can become young again." she muttered under her breath.
"No you won't." Liam said from behind you, you turned to look at him. He was already practically healed, only a few scrapes that were slowly disappearing.
"You don't have to do this." You said to the elf, who seemed a lot less dangerous and a lot more vulnerable now.
"I don't want to die." You felt sorry for her as she said that. But the sympathy only lasted a short while.
"So you need to die instead." She spat. Before she could move you dived forward. It was all a blur, the only thought in your head was to protect liam, so you stabbed the knife in her heart. You needed this to end. You closed your eyes, not wanting to see what you had done. You felt hands on your shoulders pulling you away and spinning you round, making you let go of the knife.
It was silent except for your sobs.
"You did what you had to do. For us to live. She was going to kill us and she would've hurt others. She has hurt others before." Liam soothed, rubbing his hands up and down your back. You nodded, not trusting your voice.
After a while you calmed down, the tears no longer spilling out of your eyes. yet you never turned your head to look at the body, scared that her eyes would reach onto your soul, an image you would never forget.
"How do we get out of here?" he asked. You knew that by here, he meant your homeland, not the cave or the chasm. You saw the bright light and it made you wonder. You didn't know if it still lead back home.
A rumble distracted you from your thoughts.
"What was that?" you asked Liam, scared all of a sudden. Rocks tumbled from the ground above you, nearly hitting you.
"It's the cave, now she's dead, I think its collapsing." He gasped, shielding you from getting hurt.
"We have to leave." You said quickly, standing up and walking towards the mirror.
"Will that work?" he was worried about going through it, but the light it was producing was fading and you knew you didn't have much time.
"I don't know." There was no point lying to him, but you didn't have many options.
"Ok then." He nodded, trying to get himself prepared. You grabbed his hand and ran through the mirror, shielding your eyes with the other hand. You grasped each other's hands tightly, not wanting to lose each other again, frightened that you would end up in different places.
Your feet landed on a soft surface. You opened your eyes. The first thing you saw was Liam, his eyes closed tightly, his breaths ragged and uneven. The next thing you noticed was home. Your home.
"Liam open your eyes." He did as you instructed, a sigh of relief escaping his lips.
"We're home." He said happily, hugging you.
"Yes we are." You stated, hugging him back. You reached out to touch the objects around you, feeling everything you had wished you could feel when she had trapped you there before. "We're actually home."
"Yes, although a lot of time has passed." He sat down with you, his mind full of disbelief at everything you had gone through.
"I suppose it has." You said under your breath, not quite believing it all yourself.
"We've got a wedding to plan, Mrs Dunbar." Liam smiled brightly for the first time in a long time. You looked down at your finger and admired the ring that was now there. You mirrored his expression, a blush rising to your cheeks as you repeated the name.
"Yes we have Mr Dunbar."
