A/N: this is a little bit different from what you wanted xx

He wasn't sure exactly when it started. One day he suddenly realised he had feelings for you. Only he wasn't sure if it was just a crush or if it was something more. When pack meetings were held in his loft, he would watch you for practically the whole time, trying to slow down the thumping in his chest. He admired the way you cared for others, even him, despite his rudeness towards various people. You were one of the two humans in the pack but you weren't weak and you definitely weren't useless; you would often come up with plans, ones that were mostly better than stiles' plans, not that he wanted to admit it. He thought you were beautiful, so beautiful he doubted you were human. He laughed at every one of your jokes, something that was noticed by certain members of the pack since he was rarely ever laughing.

Stiles was the one who caught on first, observing how Derek would do everything he could to help you, no matter what. He also saw how angry Derek got whenever one of the other male wolves got too close. It wasn't just members of the pack who made him jealous though, strangers in the street often made comments about you. Comments that you didn't hear, but his wolf hearing picked up on. Comments that made his blood boil. All of the evidence lead stiles to believe that Derek was in love with you.

On one occasion stiles was early to a pack meeting at the loft, meaning they had to make conversation, although Derek was often the one who was just sat listening to stiles. This day was different. The conversation was fun for stiles, but painful for Derek as the topic of you came up.

"So what do you think of y/n?" stiles questioned, amused by the look of panic that quickly flashed across Derek's face. He never thought any of the pack knew.

"She's nice. She's a part of the pack though so it's not like she can be an evil serial killer." He said casually, his choice of words making stiles smirk.

"Yeah but we both know you think she's more than nice" stiles teased. The door to the loft opened and you walked in with Lydia by your side. "Oh look here she is. I bet you're glad to see her right?" stiles asked, earning a glare from Derek as he told him to be quiet.

Eventually the whole pack arrived and you all sat down. Derek took a seat next to you, making stiles laugh as he took a seat practically opposite, just so he could watch you both. About halfway through the meeting, you took a break, the ideas on how to handle the new threat in beacon hills weren't working the way you wanted them to. You started talking to Scott and Derek watched, you noticed him staring multiple times and turned to smile at him, asking him questions so that he was included in the conversation. Stiles walked around the room and stood behind Derek, leaning over to whisper in the ear furthest away from you.

"You know, if you keep staring at her like that you might actually burn her face. I don't suppose it's a problem though, at least then her face will match yours. I've never seen you blush before Derek." Stiles' whisper was extremely loud and he knew you most likely heard, so he stood up and dragged stiles out of the room. Stiles struggled, but of course, Derek was stronger.

"What are you doing?" he hissed at stiles, blocking the doorway so he couldn't escape.

"Just teasing you. You need to tell her, before someone else does." Stiles advised, not intimidated by Derek's stance.

"I can't tell her, it's just a crush. I'm not going to break up the pack over something as petty as this." He defended.

"Fine. I'll just tell her. I mean, it's clearly not just a crush." Stiles said, going to move past Derek.

But Derek wasn't going to let stiles tell you, so he grabbed stiles' shirt, pushing him against the wall. "Don't you dare tell her!" He acted aggressive, but stiles knew he was just scared to tell you. "If you do I'll kill you." He threatened, holding his hand up and extending his claws. Once stiles was out of his grip, he rolled his eyes. He knew the wolf wasn't going to kill him, but he also wasn't going to take that chance. So he agreed to stop teasing and stay quiet.

After the unusual and rather unsuccessful pack meeting you decided to walk home. You only got halfway when you realised you had left your phone behind. You turned back, wandering down various streets and alleys to find the shortest route back. You went down one alley, the darkness making you uneasy. You could've sworn you heard footsteps, but it was late and after checking the area, you decided your imagination was playing tricks on you. The alley got smaller and smaller the further you went, as if the walls were closing in on you, trapping you and making you wonder if there was ever and end to it. You felt the hairs on your arms stand up as the temperature plummeted. The sound of breathing filled the air, so loud you thought you were having some sort of panic attack, but then a low growl came from behind you, making you freeze. Whatever it was was close, so close you could feel it behind you, the suffocating warmth spreading through the cool night air. You didn't bother turning around, knowing it would just waste valuable time, so you ran forward, looking for a point to turn out of the alley. It ran after you, and you knew you couldn't out run it, yet it never caught you, as if it was playing with you. You were close to Derek's and just hoped you would get there in time. At any moment it could decide enough was enough and tear you to pieces.

You made a sharp right, at the first exit you saw, running onto the road that was just outside Derek's house. You could see the building and started your last sprint. However the beast wasn't going to let you get away. It bounded forwards, slashing your ankles, making you fall hard on the floor. You finally turned back to look at it, but could only see glowing eyes and sharp teeth. You crawled backwards, trying everything you could to escape, but it had you trapped. It hovered over you, its arms extended out, ready to fall down on its prey.

But before it could, you heard another growl. Your first thought was that another monster had joined the feast, so you closed your eyes and waited for the inevitable. But the inevitable never came. You heard a roar, practically shaking the ground beneath you, then strong arms wrapped around your waist, dragging you away.

"Shh. Shh. It's ok. You're ok. You can open your eyes." A voice you recognised as Derek's said. When you opened your eyes, you saw that you were stood in Derek's loft, safe and far away from whatever was outside.

"Derek." You cried, the realisation of your almost- death hitting you. Your legs gave way, your muscles burning now that the adrenaline was wearing off.

"I'm here. Don't worry." He muttered, holding you up before you hit the floor. He stood embracing you, letting you lean on him for a while whilst you regained your breath and composed yourself.

"Thank you so much." You said, after calming down.

"I wasn't going to let you die out there was I? I did what I will always do. Protect you." He stated. You hugged him tightly, and he stroked your hair. Tears filled his eyes when he came to realise how close he had been to losing you. That's when he knew you weren't just a crush. He couldn't imagine not having you around. You were the only person that would make him laugh until his stomach hurt, who could make him feel so emotional. You were the only person who could make him happy, no matter what happened. He loved you, more than he could've ever imagined and it only took for you to nearly be mauled for him to realise it.
