Part 4

You followed the king and queen inside, where they led you down a long, wide entrance with embroidered drapes, showing off the family crest, hanging off every hook into a big dining hall. There were giant sparkling chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, reflecting the light from the stained glass windows. Inside the same stone covered the walls, but portraits of the king and queen hid most of it. An array of food lined the edges of the room, food you had never seen before as you could never afford it. Guests were already gathered and upon your arrival they clapped.
"Let the party begin!" the king cheered, raising a glass which had just been handed to him by one of the waiters. The room sprang to life, musicians started playing upbeat music and couples danced around the ballroom floor. Many sat and ate and discussed the latest gossip, yet you stood overwhelmed at the events of the day, and at the glimpse of what life in the castle was going to be like.
"You look a little pale, are you feeling well?" a man asked behind you. Startled, you spun round, knocking into the toned chest of the man behind you. You stumbled backwards when you realised it was prince stiles.
"I'm so sorry your majesty." You attempted to curtsy. He took your hands from your skirt, holding them in his. His hands were larger than yours and softer, most likely never having to lift a finger for himself in his whole life. But you were not here to judge as this was your future too. Your lips were parted slightly, as if you were about to speak, yet you didn't know what to say. The contact sending pleasant shivers down the back of your neck.
"Considering our circumstance, I think it would be best to drop the titles. Call me stiles." You nodded shyly, agreeing. A loud burst of laughter, caught your attention and you saw the king drunkenly stumble around as he played darts with some dukes. "He loves parties. Any excuse to have one and he will, funerals, an announcement of war, a birthday, the arrival of my future wife." Stiles smiled cheekily.
His smile was infectious and you found yourself laughing along with him.
"Come" he said, releasing one of your hands but tugging the other as he headed towards the side of the room. "You must be hungry. I heard it was a long journey. We apologise for the conditions, but our carriages can cause unrest in neighbouring countries and towns. It was safer for you to travel undercover."
He handed you a plate and you pilled food as high as you could. Meat seemed to be the main item on the menu, but you were unsurprised, it was a sign of fortune.
"That's a lot of food" stiles laughed. You looked down at your plate, having gathered everything you had never tried before.
"I didn't realise there was a limit on what a future queen can eat. My mistake. I shall return some." you didn't mean to come across as sassy. Yet stiles only laughed more.
"It's going to be fun having you around, don't worry about the food, if anyone has a problem they can talk to me about it."
You finished your food together and watched the couples dance quickly around each other, swapping partners when the music changed key.
"Want to dance?" stiles offered his hand, taking a step towards the ballroom floor. You shook your head. Taking the last bite of what was on your plate.
"I only know a few dances, and I couldn't possibly with my stomach this full." You placed your plate down on top of stiles empty plate. Having declined his offer, you turned back to watching other couples dancing.
"I should give you a tour of the castle, if you would let me" stiles interrupted your viewing.
"I'd love for you to take me on a tour" you said, knowing that he was determined to take you no matter what you said. He escorted you up a flight of dimly lit, twisted stairs until you reached what you assumed was the third floor of the castle.
