Rogelio was a round man, clearly well fed, tall and intimidating compared to your size. Yet he wore a large grin when his eyes met yours and Inga's, allowing a peacefulness to wash over you. You moved out of your home country, telick, and into a new one, leaving your past behind you.

In spite of this, you couldn't leave behind your blood behind you. And three years later, when you were 14, there was a raging war across the continent. One led by lillika, the largest of all countries. They dominated the continent always greedy for more power and land. And it was in the middle of winter, that they ceased kaross. They stole a great deal of land and money. However your uncle Rogelio managed to maintain some by making a deal with the king of lillika. One you didn't find out about until a couple of months before your 17th birthday.

You tied up the laces of your cream sandals around your ankles, getting ready to head out to the local food and goods market in order to make dinner that night. You zipped through the house, picking up money and a basket along the way, but before you reached the door your path was blocked by Rogelio.

"Y/n we need to talk about what I promised a powerful man a long time ago." Instantly you recognised the guilty look in his eyes, and nodded your head, setting down the basket before following him to the living room. You took a seat on a soft, beige armchair, as he sat on the one opposite.

"Y/N when you were 14, the king of lillika came to take everything away from me and my family. That was until he heard that you were living in my household. It was then he came to me, when I had nothing and made me a deal" he paused, and your heart rate quickened in anticipation at what he could've possible promised. "On your 17th birthday you are to go to their castle. You will be a lady to their daughter. Shadowing her, until you are ready."

"Ready for what? And why me? What does that man want with me?" you asked, a million questionings filling your head with constant noise. Your gaze shifted to an old grandfather clock in the corner of the room, the swinging pendulum offering you a guide to breathe to, so you didn't lose your nerve.

"Ready to marry his son." Your mind goes silent, the shock hindering every thought. You stared at Rogelio, your breathing strategy failing. "He knew how strong your mother was, and believes it would make lillika stronger to have you marry the future king. His advisors were very forward about the fact that this is an amazing opportunity for you and for lillika." You had no future planned in your head, but you were certain this was not a possibility.

"I can't do it." You say, shrugging your shoulders. To you, you didn't have to think too hard, the answer was easy to find and justify.

"Y/N... this isn't something you have a choice in. you have to marry the prince. I had some friends do some digging, he's a nice man, handsome and kind to his servants." You laugh a venomous laugh, one even you were surprised to hear, yet you carried on.

"I don't think you're hearing me uncle. I won't do it. I'm not marrying someone I don't love, no matter what he looks like or how he acts to the people who serve him. And I'm not going to live in lillika under the same roof as the monster that stole almost everything you've worked for." You had never snapped at Rogelio before, always feeling appreciative for everything he has done for you. Now, however after this betrayal, his name left a bitter taste in your mouth.

You spent the next few months avoiding your uncle Rogelio, despite Inga's desperate attempts to win you round. She tried to reassure you by saying that she was going to be going with you too, but all that did was make you angrier at Rogelio. Not only was he taking the life you'd built away, but also Inga's. However, when it got to your 17th birthday something changed. Having spent time thinking, you decided this was the right thing to do and fighting it wasn't going to change the fact that you had to go no matter how you felt about it. You still lived in fear over the forces in your past, and lillika castle would be the safest place for you and Inga.

You visited Rogelio in the kitchens as he was washing his hands after a day of supervising the farmers in the crop fields. He spun around and beamed having seen the outline your reflection in the kitchen window.

"I wanted to apologise" you stated, hands resting on the rustic oak table in the centre of the room, unsure what to do with them. "I over reacted. I understand that this is the best possible thing to me. I have hardly any valuable work skills, no marriage prospects to bring a stable life and I live in fear. This secures my future and means my family will not be forgotten." He offers a small smile and a meaningful apology and you two hug. He pulls away from you after a few seconds. You tried to remember the prince from when the king visited your home. You were certain the prince was there. He had dark hair and was riding a horse, but that was all you could remember.

"You better pack Y/N... you have a long road ahead of you." You agreed and went upstairs to pack your things. Most of the clothes you owned wouldn't be suitable for the castle, but you had no regal clothes, so you dealt with what you had and scavenged out the more expensive looking dresses. You settled on wearing a mint green chiffon dress than hug over the top of your shoulders, shadowing the very top of your arms. It was gathered by a thin, silver metal belt at your waist. The dress then fell straight down to the floor, floating around your body. You tied your hair up in a simple bun, out of your face, and carried your luggage outside to the carriage. Inga waited outside with her belongings forced into a small woven suitcase.

"This is where we will be staying for the next few days." Inga motioned to the carriage. It wasn't as large as you were expecting, containing only a double bed and a chamber pot, but you would have to make do.
