Part 7:

The sky was a pale blue when you exited the castle, the cloudless day providing serenity. You walked along the garden pathway, through a rose arch and into a floral garden. This area was shaped like a snails shell, circling around until it stopped in the centre. You admired many kinds of plants and insets as you walked around, yet you felt as if you were walking in one big circle, unaware if you were moving inwards or not. You hadn't seen the centre yet and wondered if this was a clever illusion. You saw another arch up ahead, but this one was covered in leaves. When you passed under it, you entered a large open area. It was fashioned like a circle with a lily pond tracing the edge of it. In the very middle was a seating area, a padded swinging seat, sheltered by a roof or roses and stems. It was a very beautiful area, as well as peaceful. You hadn't heard the frogs croaking as you were walking around, until you found yourself here.
You sat on the swinging seat, your feet only just touching the ground and considered your situation. You were in a gorgeous, heavily guarded castle with people who were invested in protecting you and carrying on your bloodline. Yet you were marrying a person you hardly knew in a weeks' time. The prince seemed charming, and he was good looking. His father was a lot less charming, and the look he held unnerved you a great deal. His mother was different but she seemed outspoken by the king, and the princess was a whole other issue. Much like her father she made you anxious, yet she hadn't really bothered you so far. Inga was at the castle with you, and you had become acquainted with alber, but Lydia was different and you were unsure how you felt about her, you just knew you wanted to preserve the harmony.
After thinking long and hard, you needed an escape. Something to relax you. So you exited the spiralled garden and carried on walking through the grounds. You decided to take a short cut instead of following the longer routes as you wanted to make it back to the castle for dinner. As you approached the front of the castle, you heard a loud convoy of horses approaching. You weren't the only one who had heard the noise, other lords and ladies who had picked up on it followed you around to the front of the castle. Dust was being kicked up into the air, making it difficult to see just how many carriages were approaching.
The convoy lined up and even the king and queen came outside, guards surrounding them. A few men hopped off the back carriage and lifted their trumpets to the air, blowing powerfully. The carriage doors swung open and outstepped several people, each had their own style, and they seemed to hold themselves like they were important people. They all walked directly over to the king and queen where they were received with hugs and smiles. The crowd dispersed and the newcomers disappeared into the building. You decided to investigate.
You followed them into the throne room, where the prince and princess were waiting. Stiles called you over and you didn't waste any time getting to his side. He held a bent arm out for you to wrap your hand around, not wasting any time in making you're pairing known.
"So who are they" you asked eagerly, excited by their arrival. They pointed up at the decorations on the wall, admiring the art and craftsmanship.
"Let me introduce you." There were six people in the room who had come from the carriages and you guessed the rest were their servants. "This is Scott, he is the duke of a nearby state." The man, who was taller than you, bowed down to kiss your hand. He had a look similar to stiles, except with a more tanned complexion and a cute jawline. His clothes were dark like the night but his eyes held compassion, the look of a good leader in your opinion.
"And this, he motioned to the woman in front of him. Is princess Kira. She is the princess of the next strongest country to ours." stiles said the last sentence directed at you, hinting that this was the woman that his advisors and many countrymen wanted stiles to marry. You nodded politely to each other, unsure if you needed to give her a curtsy, but you decided against it. You didn't want to diminish any power you had here, even if it was more symbolic than real. Her clothes were dark like Duke Scott, but with intricate oriental patterns traveling up her corset.
"Who are they?" you pointed to two men in the corner of the room, who seemed to be very friendly with each other. They shook hands, moving into a hug.
"That's prince Theo... and the other man is one of his lords, mason." Your eyes stuck to Prince Theo, something about him seemed edgy and somewhat captivating. His clothes were tight fitting around the arms, displaying his muscles. He must've felt your eyes on him because he turned to look at you, offering a smirk before stiles tugged at your arm. "He's not someone you want to get to know, he's dangerous and he's a backstabber." Stiles hissed, almost telling you off for just looking at the man. Instead he led you over to the last two people in the room.
"This is Lord Derek and lady Malia. They are brother and sister. They also own one of our most successful states in the country." They didn't look like brother and sister, but they both expressed an aura of indifference. You didn't want to stay and pretend to know what anyone was talking about so you politely said goodbye and left.
That night you planned to sit in the library and read, hearing it was the largest library in all of the continent. When you arrived it was dark, one light illuminating the back of the room. You hadn't expected anyone in there, and being a library you made sure you were as quiet as possible. That was until you heard mumbling voices. Not wanting to interrupt, but too meddlesome to leave, you hid behind a large bookshelf and peered over one of the books.
"How did she know from one look?" Lydia exclaimed, throwing her arms in the air. "If she knew just from that, maybe other people know. And that can't happen, for both our sakes." A shadow stepped out of the darkness.
"She doesn't know. And nobody else does, we have been as discrete as we possibly can. And I'm not stopping this. Not for my parents, not for the kingdom, not for y/n." you kept repeating the word no over and over in your head, convincing yourself they were hatching some kind of plot and it wasn't as you had suspected when you first met Lydia.
"You're right. I'd do anything for you. There has to be a way, we will keep trying." Lydia took a step towards stiles, and you leaned further towards the bookshelf, not believing what you were seeing. In that moment stiles pulled Lydia towards him, their lips meeting in a passionate kiss. His hands slipped around to the back of her dress, pulling on the lace at the back. Her hands slipped around his neck, pulling him closer. You'd seen all you needed to and hurried out of the room.
You were upset. Stiles wasn't your husband but he was going to be in a weeks' time and he had lied to you. He was with another woman, meaning he had a mistress and it was none other than your maid, the woman who was supposed to be taking care of you. You walked out as far as possible, until you reached a wide balcony. Walking to the end of it you rested your elbows on the wall, putting your head in your hands. Their relationship could mean the end of his rule, which meant only one thing. He loved her.
