Y/n spent the better part of thirty minutes telling this complete stranger everything that had been bothering her over the past year. The stranger nodded along, a surprisingly good listener. When she finished, the stranger gently handed the girl a handkerchief and gave her a small pat on the shoulder.

"Okay. First of all, my name is Estella Yowie, and you are Y/n Borealis." The girl spoke. "Now we're acquainted. By the sounds of it, you've been in the limelight your entire life. You come from a wealthy family that loves to flaunt it, except they had to cover up your sister's illness and later death, so they used you as the distraction. You, being young, did whatever they asked. When you got to school you almost immediately befriended Harry Potter and followed him in his adventures. In your third year you joined the Quidditch team — not out of your own volition but because your best friend Maia wanted you to. Not wanting to disappoint her, you did as she asked. Your entire life, while you've been in the limelight, it's not been your choice — it's always been someone else's. You're quite literally the main character in someone else's story."

"So what do you suggest I do?" Y/n asked, wiping her eyes with the handkerchief and finally getting a proper look at the girl.

Estella had short blonde hair that reached just above her shoulders. Her pale cheeks were dotted with white stickers, and she wore the Hufflepuff scarf she had been fighting for draped over her shoulders — a drastic contrast to her Slytherin tie. The tag of the Hufflepuff scarf had the initials 'D.A.J.' scrawled inside it, and strange bumps ran along the tag, as if in a pattern.

"My advice? Be a side character for a while. Main characters, while they lead the most interesting lives, also lead the most tragic," Estella said. "Change groups. Stop spending time with the main characters — you'll find yourself far better off for it. And stop focusing on what everyone else wants; it's time for you to focus on what Y/n wants."

"I don't think I even know what that is," Y/n admitted softly.

"Then that's where we start: figuring out what you want, who you are when you're not a main character." Estella smiled and gently wrapped an arm around the girl.

"We?" Y/n asked, furrowing her brows.

"Yeah. Do you really think I'm going to leave you to do this alone after finding you in a corridor sobbing your eyes out? Because if so, that's going to be a pretty big shock." Estella grinned. "Come on — you can hang out with my friends. They're pretty cool... except James — but he's James, so—"

Y/n grinned as Estella stood up and offered her a hand. Without hesitation she took it and pulled herself to her feet.
