Y/n Borealis never much liked Christmas. Or, at least, should one ask her now she'd say that. She'd say that she'd never liked a holiday so capitalistic and greedy as Christmas, and that given where it came from one may as well just celebrate Yule instead, that maybe if one needs the mere excuse of a holiday to give something to their loved ones perhaps, they need to reflect on themselves and become a better person (Never mind the fact she still uses Christmas as an excuse to buy her friends stuff, that's definitely different).
This however, would be a lie. As one would know if they'd known her before 1st year, had one asked Y/n Thorn-Borealis, who very likely would be a mere few feet away from her twin sister, she would've said she loved the holiday. That she very much loved the presents, and the snow that dusted over the buildings and trees, that she always looked forward to her family holiday, and, though she didn't see them much, she looked forward to spending rare moments with her family, most of all her twin sister, of whom one could mistake them for being conjoined at the hip with how attached they were.
But, now, she didn't get those rare moments with her family, she seldom spoke to them, she didn't get to go on that holiday for they'd left that holiday home abandoned for years now, she was much too old to be given presents from the overweight bearded man the muggles loved so much and she very much doubted her mother would send anything, presents felt odd now anyway- unpersonal for the most part... with exceptions, and the snow she once found so beautiful now took a darker meaning to her.
After all, her sister's blood once painted the white snow red.
But of course, Y/n Borealis couldn't possibly say all of that whenever someone asks her, so instead she'll simply say the capitalistic greed thing.
Y/n had woken up very early on Christmas Day, so early that light was not yet shining through the windows, though it was hard to tell with the curtains drawn shut. Y/n briefly contemplated going back to sleep but found that the anticipation of the Yule Ball in the evening made it impossible, so instead she opted to roll out of bed and start on opening presents.
Whilst Y/n hadn't been gifted anything from her mother or Elowen this year, she'd still been given a lot of gifts some more personal than others, her father had gifted her a very large basket of various trinkets, a few books and some articles of clothing and jewellery, he'd also gifted her an equally large basket of confectionary items (something Y/n suspected was to make up for the lack of gifts from her mother), Hermione had gifted her with a book on healing charms and a box of sugar quills, Fawn, who'd taken up crafting, had handmade a gift for Y/n, a purple knitted hat with a white snake going around it, Sable, as a joke given how she hadn't had one of her own, had gifted Y/n with an old rusted pocket watch charmed to exclaim the time at her every hour and then also a box of muggle objects of which Y/n would have to ask her about later, Angel had gifted her with a book on ancient magic, Fred, George, Ron and Maddy had all given Y/n various Zonko's products, Harry had given Y/n a large plush toy in the shape of a quaffle, Mrs Weasley had given Y/n a handmade jumper with her initial on it paired with a serpent along with- once again, various confectionary products- Zetta, likely as a joke had given Y/n a book on healing charms, however the book itself was spelled to chase after her shouting various (unhelpful) spells or solutions to the injury should Y/n find herself injured (as she'd learnt when she got a papercut trying to read it, though as consolation she'd also given Y/n a ring with a lightening design on it (though Y/n was sure that was also meant to be a joke).
