After a Charlie Finn masterclass to shut down the Mercyhurst Lakers offense in the third period last night, the Colgate Raiders will look for the sweep to open the season 2-0-0 as they play Mercyhurst one final time this evening. With 12:38 left in the first period, Sebastian Weberg scored his first goal of the season, on the power play to make it 1-0 Colgate. With 10:14 left in the first period, Zach Todd scored to tie the game 1-1. With 8:09 left in the first period, Kane Elliott scored to make it 2-1 Lakers. With 7:01 left in the first period, Derek Freeman scored his second goal of the season to tie the game 2-2. With 6:25 left in the first period, Wes Baker scored to make it 3-2 Mercyhurst. With 1:55 left in the first period, Mike Borkowski scored his first goal of the season to tie the game 3-3. Zac Hamilton and Spencer Bacon matched zeros for the remainder of period number one so we take a deep breath as we are tied 3-3 heading to the second period. Mercyhurst Coach Rick Gotkin pulled Spencer Bacon out of the net and so Brandon Wildung filled in for the remainder of the contest. With 14:11 left in the second period, Bryan Sienerth scored to make it 4-3 Mercyhurst. Colgate Coach Don Vaughan pulled Zac Hamilton out of the net and so, Charlie Finn filled in for the remainder of the game. With 12:20 left in the second period, Taylor Best scored to make it 5-3 Lakers. With 1:22 left in the second period, Kane Elliott scored to make it 6-3 Mercyhurst. A struggling Charlie Finn and Wildung matched zeros for the remainder of the period so Mercyhurst leads 6-3 after two periods of play in Erie, Pennsylvania. With 11:05 left in the third period, Phillipe Drouin scored to make it 7-3 Mercyhurst. With 5:04 left in the third period, Mike Borkowski scored his second goal of the season, his second goal of the game to make it 7-4 Lakers. With 3:47 left in the third period, Derek Freeman scored his third goal of the season to make it 7-5 Mercyhurst. With 2:17 left in the third period, Mike Borkowski scored his third goal of the season, his third goal of the game, a hat trick for mister Borkowski to make it 7-6 Lakers. With 1:44 left in the third period, Brett Corkey scored his first goal of the season to tie the game 7-7. With 1:17 left in the third period, Jonathan Charbonneau scored to make it 8-7 Lakers. With 31 seconds left in the third period, Josh Lammon scored to make it 9-7 Mercyhurst. Brandon Wildung finished off the perseverant Raiders and Mercyhurst wins 9-7 in an absolute bloodbath. Colgate dropped to 1-1-0 on the season.
