The next morning, the air was filled with excitement as the haldi ceremony began. The vibrant marigolds draped across the venue glowed in the sunlight, casting a warm, golden hue over everything. Guests milled about, chatting and laughing, while bowls of turmeric paste were being prepared on a long table. It was time to cover Taehyung and Jungkook in haldi to bless them for their new life together.
Jimin stood near the entrance, watching as everyone gathered, his thoughts briefly returning to last night’s ceremony. He couldn't help but smile as he remembered the love and emotion that had radiated between Taehyung and Jungkook. His heart felt light. But of course, just as he was beginning to relax, a familiar voice broke his thoughts.
“Enjoying the view?” Yoongi’s voice teased from beside him.
Jimin jumped slightly, turning to find Yoongi standing casually next to him, once again looking infuriatingly smug in a simple white kurta. This time, he didn’t even bother to hide the amused smile playing on his lips.
“You have a habit of sneaking up on people,” Jimin muttered, crossing his arms.
Yoongi chuckled, completely unfazed. “Or maybe you’re just easy to surprise.”
Jimin shot him a sideways glance, but before he could retort, the laughter of the crowd caught his attention. He turned to see Jungkook, now seated in the center of the gathering, beaming as Taehyung playfully applied a generous amount of haldi to his cheek.
The crowd erupted into cheers, teasing Jungkook as he tried to wipe the turmeric from his face while laughing.
Jimin’s heart warmed at the sight, and he couldn’t help but laugh along with them.
"Guess it's time for us to join in," Yoongi said, nodding towards the bowls of haldi.
“I’ll pass,” Jimin said, taking a step back. “I’m not getting covered in that stuff.”
Yoongi raised an eyebrow, a mischievous gleam in his eyes. “Not a chance. You think you can stand on the sidelines and avoid this? You’re Jungkook’s brother. You’re not getting out of it that easily.”
Before Jimin could protest, Yoongi grabbed a small bowl of haldi and dipped his fingers into the yellow paste. “Come on, let’s see if you can dodge this.”
Jimin’s eyes widened. “You wouldn’t.”
“Oh, I would,” Yoongi replied, grinning like a mischievous cat.
Jimin took a step back, then another, until he was practically sprinting away from Yoongi. The crowd parted as Jimin dashed through the guests, dodging people left and right while Yoongi pursued him, laughing the whole time.
“Come on, Jimin! Don’t make this harder than it needs to be,” Yoongi called out, clearly enjoying himself.
Jimin skidded to a halt when he realized he was cornered near the end of the courtyard, surrounded by guests who were now watching with amusement. Just as Yoongi reached him, Jimin grabbed a handful of haldi from a nearby bowl and held it up defensively.
“Don’t even think about it!” Jimin warned, his face determined.
Yoongi slowed down, holding up his hands in mock surrender, but the smirk on his face said otherwise. “Alright, alright. I’m not going to attack you.”
Jimin eyed him warily. “You’re lying.”
Before Jimin could react, Yoongi lunged forward, and in one smooth motion, smeared a streak of haldi across Jimin’s cheek. The crowd burst into laughter as Jimin stood there, momentarily stunned.
“You—!” Jimin spluttered, staring at Yoongi in disbelief.
Yoongi just grinned. “You look good in yellow.”
Without missing a beat, Jimin retaliated, smearing haldi across Yoongi’s face. The two of them stood there, covered in turmeric paste, laughing breathlessly as the crowd cheered them on.
Jimin finally stepped back, wiping his hands on his kurta, but his smile was wide. “You’re insufferable, you know that?”
Yoongi chuckled, wiping haldi off his face. “Yeah, but admit it—you’re having fun.”
Jimin rolled his eyes, but he couldn’t deny it. The playful chase, the laughter—it had been fun, despite himself. As the haldi ceremony continued around them, with everyone joyfully covering Taehyung and Jungkook in the paste, Jimin found himself feeling lighter, happier. Even with Yoongi’s teasing presence by his side, he couldn’t help but enjoy the moment.
And maybe, just maybe, Yoongi wasn’t as insufferable as he’d thought.
As the ceremony wound down, and the guests began to gather for the next part of the festivities, Jimin glanced over at Yoongi, who was wiping haldi off his hands. He shook his head, smiling to himself. "You’re unbelievable."
Yoongi looked up, meeting Jimin’s gaze with a soft smile of his own. "I get that a lot."
