Before you read this chapter, we would like to pause for a moment to honour the loss of Liam. While this story is not directly related to him, it is clear that his death has deeply affected many of us in the fandom. As part of this community, we want to share our solidarity and sympathy with all who mourn his loss. Let's stick together and support each other during this difficult time 🖤

J. and K.

Harry bridges the last few metres between them in a matter of seconds, pulls Matilda into his arms and hugs her tightly to him.

Her arms wrap around him as well and both cry tears into the other's shoulder. Harry's brain can't quite realise that after all these centuries he is finally holding his best friend in his arms again and he wants to never let her go again. In that moment, he feels the power of Louis' words and concerns he had when they talked about bringing Matilda back  - how would he ever let her choose death again when it feels so good to have her back?

Matilda's smaller and thin body is wracked with sobs and Harry hugs her just a little more, burying his face in her long blonde hair that reminds him still of tinsel like back then. It's as if she was never dead, never lay in a grave for centuries, she feels exactly the same as she did back then.

He gently separates himself from her and leans back a little, grabs her face in his hands and looks piercingly into her mint green eyes. His thumbs glide over her cheeks and he brushes away the tears that continually find their way down them and gives her a loving smile even if his own bottom lip wobbles.

"I missed you so much," Harry whispers.

“What… What am I doing here? Is it really you? What kind of clothes are you wearing?” Matilda asks, her eyes quickly flying over his face and down his body.

Harry nods. “It really is me. I'll explain everything to you right away, okay? Just to make this clear- you are in the year 2024 and no longer 1296.”

Matilda's eyes widen and she takes a step back from Harry, looks around in panic and only now seems to recognise the cemetery.

“What have you done, Harry?” she then exclaims, horrified. “I… I died. It worked. What did you do to me?”

“The question is more about what you did,” Louis suddenly hisses and Harry’s head snaps around to him.

"Louis," Harry warns.

“Who are you anyway?” Matilda asks and seems unimpressed by Louis’ sharp tone and approaches him with a raised eyebrow.

Harry fears that two too overly strong characters are meeting here and that he is about to find himself in an exchange of words. If there's one thing he really wishes for, it's for his two favourite people to get along.

And that's why he quickly walks away to Louis' side, pulls him close around his waist and puts a soothing hand on Matilda's upper arm.

“This, my dear friend, is my partner. The love of my life. This is Louis,” Harry says, smiling.
