Unplanned (Scott Summers)

Y/N's POV

I had been looking forward to tonight for days. It was supposed to be just the two of us—no chaos, no interruptions. A quiet evening with Scott, curled up on the couch, eating takeout, maybe watching a movie. It had been a long week, and the thought of finally relaxing with him had been the only thing keeping me going.

But, as always with the X-Men, plans never seemed to go smoothly.

I was in the kitchen, setting up our dinner, when I heard the sound of the front door opening and closing quickly. My heart leaped, thinking it was Scott finally coming home. But instead of the calm I was hoping for, I heard his voice, strained and tense, talking rapidly into his communicator.

"Yes, I'll be there in ten minutes. No, just keep the team on standby."

I felt the familiar frustration boiling up inside me. Another mission. Another emergency. Another time when our plans took a backseat to whatever crisis was happening in the world. I understood the importance of his work—I really did—but sometimes it felt like we could never just be together.

Scott appeared in the doorway, his brow furrowed, already in full "leader mode." "Y/N, I'm sorry, but something's come up—"

I threw the dish towel down on the counter, cutting him off. "Of course something's come up. It always does, doesn't it?"

He blinked, clearly not expecting the outburst. "It's important. I don't have a choice."

"You never have a choice," I snapped, the frustration from the entire week bubbling to the surface. "I get that you're needed out there, but Scott, we had plans tonight. You promised."

Scott's POV

I knew she was right. I had promised her that tonight would be just for us. No distractions, no emergencies. But duty had a way of creeping in, no matter how hard I tried to separate my life as Cyclops from my relationship.

Still, the accusation in her voice stung. It wasn't like I wanted to leave.

"Y/N, it's not like I can just ignore what's happening. People need me."

Her arms crossed over her chest, her expression hardening. "And what about me? What about us, Scott? Every time we make plans, something always comes up, and I'm left here, wondering when I'm going to stop feeling like second place in your life."

I felt a pang of guilt, but frustration crept in as well. "That's not fair. You know what I signed up for—what we both signed up for."

Her eyes flashed with anger, and she took a step closer to me, her voice trembling. "I didn't sign up to feel like I'm constantly competing for your attention. I didn't sign up to be ignored whenever something 'more important' comes along."

Y/N's POV

The moment the words left my mouth, I knew they would hurt him. But I was tired—tired of being understanding, tired of putting on a brave face every time he left me standing alone. I needed more from him, and it felt like I was always coming up short.

Scott's jaw tightened, and for a moment, I thought he would walk out the door without saying another word. But instead, he took a deep breath, his voice softer than I expected.

"Do you really think I'm ignoring you? Do you think I don't want to be here with you, more than anything else?"

His tone caught me off guard. I had expected anger, defensiveness, but instead, there was a raw vulnerability in his words. It made me pause, my own anger flickering out as I looked into his eyes.
