The mission had gone sideways fast.

Y/N's pulse was still racing as she and Kurt sprinted through the dimly lit corridors of the enemy base, their footsteps echoing through the narrow halls. Alarms blared in the distance, the sound of guards shouting and scrambling to track them down. They'd been lucky to escape the ambush, but now they were cornered—outnumbered and with nowhere to go.

Kurt was just ahead of her, his blue form barely visible in the low light. His usual calm demeanor was strained, his tail flicking anxiously as they turned another corner, searching for a place to hide. Y/N could feel the adrenaline surging through her veins, her mind racing as she tried to figure out their next move. They were running out of options, and fast.

"Here!" Kurt's voice was urgent as he spotted a small, hidden alcove tucked into the side of the hallway. Without hesitating, he grabbed Y/N's arm and pulled her inside, his teleportation ability not an option given the chaos outside. The space was barely big enough for the two of them, forcing their bodies close together as they pressed against the cold metal wall.

Y/N's breath came in quick, shallow gasps as she tried to calm herself, her heart still pounding in her chest. The small space was tight, her back against the wall and Kurt standing directly in front of her, his body brushing against hers in the cramped quarters. She could feel the heat radiating off him, the closeness making it impossible to think about anything other than the fact that they were now pressed together in a way they had never been before.

Kurt's breathing was heavy too, his yellow eyes glowing softly in the dark as he glanced down at her, concern etched across his features. "Are you okay?" he asked, his voice low, filled with worry.

Y/N nodded, but the truth was, her mind was spinning. The danger outside, the overwhelming rush of adrenaline, and now the undeniable closeness between them—it was all too much. She had always admired Kurt's kindness, his gentle nature that contrasted with the danger they constantly faced as X-Men. But now, with him standing so close, his chest barely an inch from hers, she was suddenly acutely aware of just how much she had been trying to ignore.

"I'm fine," she whispered, her voice trembling slightly.

Kurt's hand brushed her arm, his touch featherlight, as if he were afraid she might break. "We'll get through this," he said softly, his voice laced with a quiet confidence that sent a wave of warmth through her.

For a moment, they stood in silence, their breathing the only sound in the small, enclosed space. The adrenaline was still pumping through Y/N's veins, but now it wasn't just from the danger outside. It was from Kurt—the way his body was pressed against hers, the way his hand lingered on her arm. She could feel the tension building between them, a spark that had always been there but had never been acknowledged. Until now.

"Kurt..." Y/N began, her voice barely above a whisper, but she didn't know what to say. The words felt stuck in her throat, her emotions raw and exposed in the intensity of the moment.

Kurt's eyes flickered to hers, and for a brief second, the concern in his gaze gave way to something else—something deeper, more intense. His hand, still resting on her arm, moved slightly, his fingers grazing her skin in a way that sent a shiver down her spine.

"I'm sorry, I—" he started, his voice shaky, but Y/N could see the conflict in his eyes. It wasn't just about their mission anymore. It was about the way they were standing so close, the way her heart was racing for reasons that had nothing to do with the danger they were in.

Before she could stop herself, Y/N reached up, her hand gently cupping his cheek. The movement was instinctive, driven by the surge of emotion coursing through her. Kurt's skin was warm under her touch, and she felt him tense for a moment, his breath hitching as her fingers brushed against him. But he didn't pull away. Instead, he leaned into her touch, his eyes closing briefly as if savoring the contact.

The air between them was thick with tension, the adrenaline and fear mixing with something else—something that had been simmering beneath the surface for too long.

"Kurt," Y/N whispered, her voice barely audible in the tight space. Her hand slid down from his cheek to rest against his chest, her fingers lightly tracing the lines of his suit. She could feel his heart pounding just as hard as hers, and for a split second, the world outside seemed to disappear.

Kurt opened his eyes, and the intensity of his gaze nearly took her breath away. There was a vulnerability in his expression, one that she hadn't seen before. The kind that only came when walls were finally broken down.

"I've been trying not to feel this," he admitted softly, his voice trembling. "But... I can't ignore it anymore."

Y/N's heart raced even faster at his words, and before she could overthink it, she surged forward, closing the distance between them as her lips met his in a heated, spontaneous kiss.

The kiss was electric, full of the emotions they had both been holding back for so long. Kurt's arms wrapped around her, pulling her even closer as he kissed her back with a passion that surprised them both. The world outside—the danger, the mission—it all faded into the background as they lost themselves in each other, the intensity of the moment sweeping them away.

Y/N's fingers tangled in Kurt's hair as she deepened the kiss, her body pressed tightly against his. She could feel his hands on her waist, his grip firm but gentle, as if he were both afraid to hold on too tightly and terrified to let her go. The rawness of the moment—the fear, the adrenaline, the unspoken feelings—had all collided, and now, there was no turning back.

When they finally pulled apart, both of them breathless, Kurt rested his forehead against hers, his eyes still closed as if trying to steady himself. His hands were still on her waist, his touch lingering even as they stood in the aftermath of the kiss.

"I didn't mean to...," Kurt began, his voice shaky, but Y/N shook her head, silencing him.

"It's okay," she whispered, her fingers tracing the line of his jaw. "I didn't see it coming either."

For a long moment, they stood there, the world around them still and quiet, their breathing the only sound in the small, hidden space. The danger outside was still very real, but now, with Kurt's arms around her and their feelings finally out in the open, it felt like nothing else mattered.

Y/N smiled softly, her fingers brushing against his cheek once more. "We'll figure it out. After we survive this."

Kurt let out a soft, breathless laugh, his grip on her tightening slightly as he pressed another quick, tender kiss to her lips. "I think we will."

In the safety of the hidden space, they had found more than just shelter from the danger outside. They had found each other.
