The moonlight filtered through the trees, casting a silver glow on the forest clearing as Y/N sat on a fallen log, taking in the peaceful stillness of the night. She came here often when she needed to escape the hustle and chaos of the mansion. Something about the quiet of the forest helped her clear her mind. But tonight, her thoughts were too scattered, too tangled to unravel, no matter how peaceful the surroundings were.
Her thoughts kept drifting back to Kurt Wagner.
There was something about him—his warmth, his kindness, his ability to make her smile, even on the toughest days. His presence was comforting, like a beacon of light in the often-dark world they lived in. But lately, Y/N had been feeling something more than just friendship with Kurt. She found herself drawn to him in ways she hadn't expected, her heart racing whenever he was near. And tonight, those feelings were weighing heavily on her mind.
"Y/N?"
A soft voice, accented and familiar, pulled her from her thoughts. She looked up, startled to see Kurt standing a few feet away, his glowing yellow eyes full of concern.
"Kurt?" she said, surprised. "What are you doing out here?"
"I could ask you the same," he replied with a gentle smile, his blue tail flicking behind him as he stepped closer. "I noticed you weren't at dinner and thought you might want some company."
Y/N smiled softly, appreciating his thoughtfulness. "Just needed some time to think."
Kurt nodded, his expression understanding as he moved to sit beside her on the log, folding his legs gracefully beneath him. "Ja, I understand. It is easy to get lost in our thoughts when the world feels... heavy."
Y/N glanced at him, her heart fluttering at the way the moonlight highlighted his features. His blue skin seemed to glow softly in the pale light, and his gentle demeanor only made her affection for him grow stronger.
"Is something bothering you?" Kurt asked, his voice soft but full of genuine concern. "You seem... troubled."
Y/N hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to put her feelings into words. She didn't want to burden Kurt with her emotions, especially when she wasn't even sure how to explain them herself. But the sincerity in his eyes made her feel like she could tell him anything.
"I've just been thinking a lot," she admitted, her voice quiet. "About everything—about the future, about the team... about us."
Kurt tilted his head slightly, his golden eyes narrowing with curiosity. "Us?"
Y/N swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her chest as she realized what she had just said. There was no taking it back now. She had opened the door, and Kurt was waiting for an explanation.
"I mean... you and me," she clarified, her cheeks flushing with nervousness. "I don't know, Kurt. I've just been thinking about how much you mean to me, and I don't think I've ever told you that."
Kurt blinked, surprise flashing across his face before a soft smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. "You mean a great deal to me as well, Y/N. You are one of the kindest souls I have ever known."
Y/N felt her heart swell at his words, but she knew she had to say more. She couldn't keep these feelings bottled up any longer, not when Kurt was right here, looking at her with such warmth and understanding.
"I think... I've been trying to ignore it for a while," Y/N continued, her voice barely above a whisper. "But the truth is, I care about you more than just as a friend. You make me feel... safe, and happy, in a way I've never felt before."
Kurt's eyes widened in surprise, and for a moment, Y/N worried that she had said too much, that she had ruined the easy friendship they shared. But then, slowly, Kurt's smile grew, his entire face lighting up with a joy she hadn't expected.
"You care about me?" he asked, his voice filled with wonder, as if he couldn't quite believe what he was hearing.
Y/N nodded, her heart racing. "I do. A lot."
For a long moment, Kurt didn't say anything. He just looked at her, his glowing eyes searching her face as if trying to find the truth in her words. Then, finally, he let out a soft, breathy laugh, his tail flicking excitedly behind him.
"I... I don't know what to say," he admitted, his voice full of emotion. "I have felt the same way about you for so long, but I never imagined you might feel the same."
Y/N felt a wave of relief wash over her, a smile breaking across her face. "You mean that?"
"Of course," Kurt said, his voice earnest as he reached out, gently taking her hand in his. His fingers were cool against her skin, but his touch was gentle, reverent, as if he couldn't quite believe she was real. "You are... everything to me, Y/N. You bring light into my life, and I have always been too afraid to tell you."
Y/N's heart skipped a beat at his words, her chest tightening with the overwhelming affection she felt for him. She had always known Kurt was special, but hearing him say that he felt the same way—it was more than she had ever hoped for.
"You don't have to be afraid anymore," she whispered, her fingers tightening around his. "I'm right here."
Kurt smiled, his fanged grin soft and full of warmth. "Thank you, Y/N. You don't know how much that means to me."
Without thinking, Y/N leaned closer, her free hand reaching up to gently touch his face. Kurt froze for a moment, his eyes widening in surprise, but he didn't pull away. Instead, he leaned into her touch, his eyes closing briefly as if savoring the moment.
"Kurt," Y/N whispered, her voice barely audible as she closed the distance between them, her heart pounding in her chest. "I'm really glad you found me out here tonight."
"As am I," Kurt murmured, his voice full of quiet affection.
And then, without another word, Y/N closed the gap between them, pressing her lips softly to his. Kurt tensed for a moment, clearly surprised by the gesture, but then he melted into the kiss, his hand still holding hers as he kissed her back with a gentle tenderness that made Y/N's heart soar.
The kiss was soft, sweet, full of unspoken emotions that had been building between them for so long. When they finally pulled apart, Kurt looked at her with such awe, as if he couldn't quite believe what had just happened.
"Y/N," he whispered, his voice full of wonder, "I... I never imagined..."
"Neither did I," Y/N admitted, her heart still racing. "But I'm really glad it did."
Kurt smiled, his fingers brushing against her cheek as he leaned his forehead against hers. "You are truly a blessing in my life, Y/N. Thank you... for everything."
Y/N smiled, feeling a warmth spread through her chest at his words. "I should be thanking you, Kurt. You've always been there for me, even when I didn't realize how much I needed you."
They sat there in the moonlit clearing, holding each other close, and for the first time in a long time, Y/N felt at peace. The world was still full of danger, full of uncertainty, but in this moment, with Kurt by her side, she knew they could face whatever came next.
Together.
